Who: ZAZ and Claudio Capéo
When: April 27th, 2019
Where: Bell Center, Montreal QC
Being a French expat living in Montreal, it always warms my heart when artists from the motherland come for a little visit in La Belle Province. Last night, French Variety sensation Zaz brought the Effet Mirroir Tour to a crowd of 10,000 fans at the Bell Centre.
For her opening act, Zaz brought with her another up-and-coming French act named Claudio Capéo, a former contestant on The Voice France. Accompanied by 2 musicians, Claudio performed a set that felt intimate (which is impressive given the size of the arena). However, the minimalist stage setup and lighting did not prevent him from getting the crowd excited and dancing to the folksy sounds of his accordion.
Half an hour after Claudio Capéo finished performing, Zaz made quite the entrance on stage. As soon as the lights went down, without any build up, the music started and her shadow appeared behind a curtain as she started singing. This simplicity was definitely present throughout her whole performance: the stage setup created a gorgeous backdrop for the audience to focus on Zaz, as she gave an energetic, honest and generous performance which was the perfect Friday night plan for any fan of French Variety.
