Authors of Fate Unleash the Beast: Seat’s Taken EP Out Now!

Los Angeles-based Authors of Fate have dropped their highly anticipated EP, Seat’s Taken! Dive into a world of raw energy and aggressive innovation as each track delivers a powerful blend of blackened metalcore, thrash, and hardcore. With explosive singles and premieres on major outlets, this EP is setting the metalcore scene ablaze.

First off care to introduce yourself to our readers?

Sure thing. My name is Elan, and I play guitar for Authors of Fate. We’re just a hot pot of heavy music where anything can be put in and taken out as seen fit by us as writers, and the audience as listeners.

Tell us a bit about your recent release.

Our newest release, Seat’s Taken, reflects the band as a whole, with each song as somewhat of a theme for each member. Each song is heavy, or cool, or whatever we like, but in different ways. It does have a lot of similar lyrical and mood motifs as our last release though, focusing on the unimportance of things, and to not take ourselves (or yourselves) too seriously. We’re very proud of how it turned out, including the production and artwork as a total package.

How do you typically go about the songwriting process? Do you have a specific method or creative routine that you follow?

I/we don’t have a formula for how we write. As I noted above, the songs are written “for” each guy in the band. We would write a song with a particular member’s taste in mind to keep things interesting and not too repetitive, while still trying to keep it cohesive. The only thing that is typical is that once we start with an idea, I take it home and work out most of the riffs and arrangements, and then we send it back and forth and try it live together at practice until we all think it rocks. Each guy writes his parts, then we do some pre pro recordings to make sure it doesn’t suck. Usually, it’s good from there, and I don’t like to do rewrites unless absolutely necessary, because you start to lose the intent. Nothing groundbreaking, but it works well enough for us.

Looking ahead, what are your plans for supporting this new release? Are there any upcoming tours, music videos, or additional content that fans can look forward to in connection with this project?

Play shows and release more videos and content is always the goal. We have some local shows booked into early summer, and we’re going on a Southwest US tour with the legendary D.R.I. from May 21-26. We are also in the middle of booking a DIY West Coast run in early September. Planning to drop another video in early summer, and maybe one more in the fall. So, there are some shows to come pit at, and online stuff coming up soon for everyone.

Looking back on your musical career, is there a particular moment or accomplishment that you consider a turning point or a highlight?

I once missed a guitar lesson from a very good teacher I had in college. I had all these excuses. So he told me a story about his friend, who was a concert violinist or something, that had told him a story, as my teacher drove this musician to the airport so he could fly to Europe for some big symphony the next day. Details don’t matter. The violinist was recovering from brain tumor surgery and had just gotten out of the hospital the day before he had to fly out. Not from the surgery, which had been a couple of weeks before, but because his girlfriend hit him in the head with a bat during a fight the night before, right in the tumor, so he had to get restitched up. My teacher was like “dude, should you be flying to Europe right now, after all of that?” and he responded, “I’m booked for it, and what else would I do?” Needless to say, I didn’t miss any more lessons. I realized that no one cares about your excuses, and I have very little patience for them now myself. That concept has always stuck with me. But, I did drop out after that semester to play in a metal band full time because I thought that was more important lol.
