First off, care to introduce yourself to our readers?
Hey all! I’m Henry G of The Wesleys, from Vancouver B.C. based out of Montreal for the last 7 years. On top of my love for music, I also enjoy Graphic Design. I also love Cats, Sunny Days, and hangin’ out with my friends.
Tell us a bit about your most recent release.
Our self-titled album “The Wesleys” was completely produced, recorded, and mixed by us. It’s the result of over a year’s worth of rolling with the punches and learning as we went. Despite this fact, the album itself turned out better than we could have ever anticipated. I like to think, there’s a little bit of something for everybody on this album.
How do you typically go about the songwriting process? Do you have a specific method or creative routine that you follow?
There really is no set way we write songs. Sometimes I’ll come to the group with a song that is pretty much done, other times arrangements arise just from experimenting and jamming together. And then once we have a solid base to start from, we just keep playing them over and over, making small changes but keeping the overall vibe of the song intact. As for the vocals it’s all up in the air, I (Henry) usually end up singing them, but if a certain song has a specific sound that would be better suited to Quentin or Pablo’s voice, they’ll end up singing it.
Looking ahead, what are your plans for supporting this new release? Are there any upcoming tours, music videos, or additional content that fans can look forward to in connection with this project?
Yep! We have all sorts of crazy stuff booked for this summer. We’ve got dates in Montreal with bands like Spiritual Cramp, Béton Armé, Absolute Losers, Prism Shores, and Sam Woy to name a few. We will also be playing NXNE in Toronto and Sled Island in Calgary. We’ve got a small run of shows we’re booking with our friends Last Waltzon in the GTA/Ottawa. We’re currently taking a month and a half off from shows to focus on recording some of our even newer stuff. So there is a lot to look forward to!
Looking back on your musical career, is there a particular moment or accomplishment that you consider a turning point or a highlight?
I think our album release was that moment for me. We threw it at L’escogriffe, somewhere we’ve played many times before, but this time was different. You couldn’t have shoved another person into that room. We had our friend Gab Payeur doing lights and it took the show to a whole other level. You can watch the whole thing on YouTube, check it out and you’ll know exactly what I mean.
Last but not least, it’s time to pay it forward, what upcoming band or artist would you recommend your fans check out?
I love Montreal and all the incredibly awesome bands we have here. Bands like Last Waltzon, Pressure Pin, La Securite, Groupe B, Shunk, Ev Bird, Béton Armé, and Othello Tunnels to name a few. Check out any of these bands and I have no doubt you’ll be delighted with what you hear!
