Canadian Folk Music Awards unveils Award Week Programming for 2024

Experience the Heartbeat of Canadian Folk at the 19th CFMA Awards in St. John’s

Get ready for a celebration of music and community at the Canadian Folk Music Awards (CFMA) 2024, set to unfold in the vibrant city of St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador, from April 3rd to 7th.

This year, we’re taking the festivities to unprecedented heights with an awe-inspiring lineup that includes two Awards Gala Concerts, three Nominee Showcases, and an array of events that promise to delight audiences. Tickets for all events will be available on sale next week via folkawards.ca. Plus: all performances will be livestreamed!

  • April 3-7, 2024: A full slate of events leading up to the grand Awards Gala Concerts.
  • April 6th and 7th: Awards Gala Concerts at The Majestic Theatre, hosted by Tom Power (Host of Q on CBC Radio One) and Emilia Bartellas (The Dardanelles), featuring live performances and the presentation of 10 awards each night.

In partnership with Celebrate NL, Destination St. John’s, and Music NL, the 19th CFMA Awards Weekend is more than just an event—it’s a gathering of the folk community’s brightest stars.

With performances by Julian Taylor, Jill Barber and so many talented nominees from the Traditional echos of Folk Music and the Songwriters Showcase to the heartwarming melodies of the Family Music Showcase, each moment is designed to honour the incredible talent that defines Canadian folk music.

The CFMA’s are delighted to be part of Newfoundland and Labrador’s 2024 Year of the Arts.

  • April 3: Pre-Awards Kickoff Celebration – Featuring local Newfoundland talent brought to you by the Newfoundland Folk Arts Society. (At The Ship Pub; time and ticket information TBC)
  • April 4: Music NL Celebration – Showcasing Newfoundland and Labrador artists. (8 p.m. at the Majestic Theatre; tickets $25)
  • April 5: Songs & Stories at LSPU Hall – Songwriter Showcase featuring performances by Marie-Ève Laure (QC), Dans l’Shed (QC), Barbra Lica (ON), Cynthia Hamar (AB), Steven Taetz (ON) and Noah Zacharin (ON) (7 pm. at LSPU Hall; Tickets $25)
  • April 5: Tradworks -Traditional and Global Roots Showcase featuring performances by Mary Beth Carty (NS), Musique à bouches (QC), Sophie Lukacs (QC), Jackson Hollow (BC), Medusa (ON) and The Bombadils (NS). (10 p.m. at The Ship Pub. Tickets are $25)
  • April 6: Awards Concert Night 1 – Featuring performances by Julian Taylor (ON), Aaron Collis (NL), La Déferlance (QC), Queen Kong (ON), and Steve Dawson (BC). (8 p.m. at The Majestic Theatre; tickets $50)
  • April 7: Folk For Families – A family-friendly showcase featuring performances by La famille Leblanc (NB), Darrelle London (ON), Mr. Ben (ON), and Newfoundland’s own The Swinging Belles (NL). (1:30 p.m. at The Rooms; tickets TBC)
  • April 7: Awards Concert Night 2 – featuring performances by Kaeley Jade (AB), Al Qahwa (ON), Youngtree & the Blooms (NL), Aleksi Campagne (QC) and Jill Barber (BC). (8 p.m. at The Majestic Theatre; tickets $50).
