Toronto Based Pop Singer Quintessa Lives In The Moment With “Zone”
Everyone has a few moments when everything falls into place, and you feel really good about your life. Toronto-based pop singer Quintessa embodies this feeling with her new single, “Zone,” a catchy pop song with hip-hop elements.
The song opens with an easygoing chorus that features the singer boasting about how in the zone she is and how she feels everything is going right for her. The song then transitions to the first verse, where the singer continues to ooze confidence with a carefree attitude.
“Doing me and feeling lovely, its on
Vibe all day then go from dusk until dawn
See no haters poof like nothing they gone
Live my life in the above and beyond”
Quintessa confirms that the song is about living life well to the fullest. “Zone is about being in the moment, in your element, in the flow – in the “zone.” It is about saying yes to life, life saying yes to you. Being in the sweet spot of NOW, presence, in which your gifts can be presented in love and shared with the world.”
The song’s upbeat lyrics are complemented with a hip-hop-influenced production featuring light drum beats and a casual melody. It is a song that can be played on a drive or hanging out with friends, a song for a good mood and a good time.
Of the song’s production, Quintessa states, “I came up with the chords and built upon it with a few melodies and some drums – then started writing. I made the foundation by playing around on my keyboard in my living room, then took it to the studio and worked with my producer, Jim Anderson, to turn it into a completed song. It has an icey/crystally swag to it.”
Enhancing the song is a music video that features Quintessa casually going with the flow as she ambles along the city streets. Her swagger matches the happy and serene mood of the song and encourages the viewer to feel the same.

Care to introduce yourself?
My name is Quintessa Evangeline. I’m a be-er, a liver of life. A lover. The mission is to always, in all ways, do what I do with love and authenticity. To create from a place of truth. To, in fact, allow God’s creativity to work through me in every moment. To connect with the world around me by connecting with the connection of all that is. To allow my music to be a testimony of that – a celebration of life. That’s who I am. I make music for that reason. I’m grateful for the opportunity to create, to express myself, and for my ability to breathe.
I share music to share, to feel at home, and to bring together. To inspire us all to love freely – whether that is to allow us to feel seen, heard, and/or understood, to uplift our spirit in joy for the moment, to encourage us to be vulnerable in our daily lives, or to spark creativity in one another. It is in praise of the masterpiece of creation, in which we all collaborate to glorify this. To facilitate more moments of connection, within, without, with God.
Tell us about the process of writing “Zone.”
I wrote this song about presence.
“Zone” is about being in the moment, in your element, in the flow – in the “zone.” It is about saying yes to life, life saying yes to you. Embracing the knowingness of who you are in authenticity – an expression of spirit. In honouring truth, heaven’s light is shining through and upon you as you move in purpose. Enjoying one’s self in the fullness of its meaning. Being in the sweet spot of NOW, presence, in which your gifts can be presented in love and shared with the world. The “zone” is connecting with all that is. The zone is right here.
I wrote this song because developing and strengthening my relationship with life in this way is my focus. The value available at the moment is priceless. Building momentum in this is enriching in and of itself, allowing my experience to unfold ever-abundantly, following in faith while being led by the goodness of God.
I came up with the chords and built upon them with a few melodies and some drums – then started writing. I made the basic foundation by playing around on my keyboard in my living room, then took it to the studio and worked with my producer, Jim Anderson, to turn it into a completed song. It has an icy/crystally swag to it. It a simple song, which allows the listener to feel themselves in it. I love making songs with universal messages.
What’s it like being a musician in Toronto?
Toronto’s a great city for musicians. Arts and culture are very much vibrant and alive. It’s diverse, yet the uniqueness comes together in a beautiful harmony to create a voice for the city. It’s welcoming and supportive. There are opportunities everywhere to collaborate, be inspired, and expand your knowledge and network. The environment is ripe for building and growth. The energy is definitely moving. It’s going on – still, it’s balanced, in a natural flow, with homeyness and community. It’s good people.
Who was the first Canadian artist to blow you away?
I definitely admire Drake. His heart, presence, and power are truly a gift – it’s awe-inspiring. He is a master of his craft and still humble. He brings a lightheartedness to his field that is a breath of fresh air, and his wisdom is evident in his work. The way he handles himself in the industry with professionalism – like, he’s a businessman and a boss yet maintains a childlike spirit. He does life from such a pure place. His musicality is genius. He’s innovative and fresh with it while drawing on so much knowledge that even the most modern of sounds he creates maintains a warmth that is rich with history. He’s always inventing and stretching the listener’s expectations – he continually paves the way. There are layers and depth to his lyrics. He has the ability to tell a personal story yet keep it universally relatable. It’s the clarity of his mind and how he can communicate such powerful messages with such ease, grace, and eloquence. It’s obvious why he is so loved. He is who he is, and he knows what sounds good. Canada is thankful that his impact and influence have reached far beyond this country. Real artistry transcends boundaries. It brings worlds together – he does that.
You’ve been making music for a while now. What’s one piece of advice you can offer to those starting out?
Keep moving. Things come together as you go and enjoy the process. A line in this song says, “If it’s cliche, I dont care.”
