Powerwalk unveils their latest single, “Lantern”
A mutual love of retro 80’s dance music brought together three long-time friends and musicians from St. Catharines, Ontario. Powerwalk consists of Arih SK, Amanda Parker, and Mark Hoerdt. Finding lyrical inspiration from mundane observations, magazine articles, and life experiences. Musical inspiration from acoustic drums, electric bass, and synthesizers. This project is about taking the pressure off of music creation- it’s just meant to be fun. Any riff can become a great song, every band member should sing, and anything can be a lyric.
The band has unveiled their latest single, “Lantern.”
“”Lantern” is a song about being the bravest person in the room. Someone has to be willing to get to the light source in the dark – and when we are younger, we rely on someone who isn’t as scared to do that for us. As we get older, the brave people are gone, or we have children who need us to be that person for them now. It is about figuratively and literally passing the torch on to be a leader and have the courage to care for the people you love.”
Review
Coming in at under 3 minutes, consisting of a retro, inviting beat, “Lantern” pulls you in immediately.
As the vocals begin, you’re treated to a beautiful harmony that melds perfectly with the beat. As the song progresses, Amanda’s powerful vocals shine, taking center stage.
The lyrics, “I’ve been told become what you are, I’ve been bold I’ve been scared of the dark,” struck a chord with me. Until recently, I was scared to be who I wanted to be, and now, after being brave and taking many chances, I’m on the path to who I want to be.
Aside from Amanda’s vocals, the single also consists of vocals by Arih SK and Mark, which are warm and smooth. All three members contribute to the vocals, giving the track a full-bodied feel, which showcases all the talent this trio possesses.
All of the lyrics on this track offer motivation for the listener to become their true self and to be brave. So grab that lantern and let your light shine!
