Gloin shares debut album and single/ video for “Dark Moto”
Gloin is a four-piece noise rock group from Toronto, Canada, known for their cathartic live sets and eclectic songwriting.
According to the latest forecast, this sonic raz-de-marée is to reach new dizzying heights on their debut album, We Found This, released today via Mothland.
Drawing inspiration from Sonic Youth’s nonchalant verve and Lightning Bolt’s aggressive sonic constructs, Gloin’s new opus, We Found This, is flush with patented pop melodies and beautifully noisy arrangements, supported by a distorted rhythm section that offers plenty of urgency but also soothing grooves. Lyrically, the long-player is as subversive as it is inspiring, challenging the routine, embracing the occult, and celebrating individuality.
For their first full-length, Gloin elected to print their waves at Soleil Sound and Palace Recording, working alongside up-and-coming studio wizard Dylan Frankland of Tallies, later turning to Canadian music visionary Graham Walsh (Holy Fuck, METZ, Alvvays, etc.) for the mix. Mastering duties were the affair of Gavin Gardiner at All Day Coconut. Firmly entrenched within Toronto’s effervescent alternative music scene, both the process and the result speak volumes as to the city’s knack for bringing innovative leftfield music to new shores. Along its deep fluid grooves and patented “noise pop” envolées, the record tackles bewilderment, dread, and anger, while also overflowing with a punk-like sense of self-determination. Moreso, it celebrates the quartet’s genuine love for beautifully dissident art.

Care to introduce yourself to our readers?
We’re Gloin. We’re a 4-piece noise/rock/alt/pop (?) band from Toronto. Our names are John, Vic, Simon, and Richard.
Tell us a bit about your most recent release.
Our most recent release is our first LP called We Found This. It came out through the label Mothland out of Montreal. We wrote, recorded, and finished this album in 2019; however, COVID-19 delayed its release a few times. We recorded it with our good friend Dylan Frankland of the band Tallies–we’ve recorded with him on numerous projects in the past with other bands, and he’s an incredibly fun/funny person to work with.
The album is a bit of a departure from our first EP release, Soft Monster, which was (probably) based somewhere in a psych sound, but it definitely feels like we were finding our footing. We Found This is more rooted in a specific ‘sound’ that we were aiming for: we wanted to really lean in creatively, and we had a ‘no bad ideas’ attitude during the writing process that really helped us push our boundaries.
Where do you tend to pull inspiration from when writing?
We definitely all have different musical tastes, and we pull inspiration from a bunch of different places. I think all of us can agree we are interested in a sort of dark, driving post-punk sound. Also, we like to make loud music you can dance to. Lyrically, our songs tend to focus on feelings and questions about the darker side of life, day-to-day, soul-crushing monotony, organized religion…a real range.
Do you have any upcoming shows or festivals you’d like to tell us about?
We have a string of fall dates in November in support of We Found This, including Freakout Fest in Seattle, M for Montreal in Montreal, and the Horseshoe Tavern in Toronto, where we will be having our official release show!
What’s your goal for the remainder of 2022?
Play as much as we can, put 2019-2021 and COVID-19 behind us, keep writing music, and keep being really loud.
