Stoby – Countdown to Tim Horton’s Ottawa Dragon Boat Festival

Stoby to open for The Strumbellas on Day 1 of Tim Horton’s Ottawa Dragon Boat Festival

On June 24 & 25th, Tim Horton’s Ottawa Dragon Boat Festival takes place in Ottawa, ON. We teamed up with the event to conduct interviews with some of the Canadian talent leading up to the big day. First off, we spoke with The Strumbellas, followed by Rebelle. Now we’re getting to know Ottawa’s Stoby.

Stoby, a female-fronted bilingual culmination of members from across Ontario and Quebec plays indie fuzz-pop with sparkly hooks and drums that fills that fill the heart with joy.

You can catch Stoby on June 24 at 6:30 pm, opening for The Strumbellas. They are sure to get the crowd pumped and ready to party!

Check out the video for their newest single, “Gibberish,” below, and find out more about the band and their upcoming performance via our mini-interview.

First off, care to introduce yourself to our readers?

Hey! We are a band from Ottawa, we play punky power pop. Some people call it alternative rock, but we aren’t really sure what that term means anymore. We’ve been playing in a band for five years. Done shows in Ottawa, Montreal, and across Ontario and Quebec. It’s been super fun, met a lot of cool and kind people.

Tell us a bit about your newest release.

Although we are in the middle of mixing a new album, the last big release we had was an album called Shark Girl Shark Shark. We recorded it ourselves for the most part and had other people mix and master it, so it’s close to how we wanted it to sound. It’s fast, slow at some parts, and super fun and poppy.

You’ll be playing Ottawa’s Dragon Boat Festival later this month, is this your first performance at the festival?

Yes, this is the first time we have played at this festival, and I think this is the first time we have ever played a show outdoors.

What can attendees expect from your performance?

A solid rock show with female vocal harmonies, smooth bass, drum fills that fill the heart with joy, and some catchy tunes… or your money back (it’s a free show though).

Besides performing, what are you most excited to check out at the festival?

We are looking forward to seeing The Strumbellas and Frown Line perform. Also, the Walking Tacos sounds like a good place to go for dinner and of course, to watch the Dragonboat races.

Do you have any other upcoming shows or festivals to tell us about?

Yes, we are playing the Side-by-side Festival in Ottawa. It’s on July 31st at Club Saw. A whole bunch of awesome bands playing through the weekend. Gonna be a great time.
