Randy J. Martin – Five Questions With

Randy J. Martin shares on his music career and more

Randy J Martin’s career began in the early 90s, winning local and regional talent competitions before gaining national recognition with his hit “Ain’t Enough Hours,” inspired by his time working on the Confederation Bridge.

Over his career, he released 3 solo albums, charted 8 Top 40 Cancon hits, and earned numerous award nominations, including a Big Country Award and an ECMA. Martin toured with Stompin’ Tom Connors, played to massive crowds, and later formed the band Sweet Tequila, recording 3 more albums. He continues to write hits and tour across Western Canada with Sweet Tequila while balancing other ventures.

First off care to introduce yourself to our readers?

My name is Randy J Martin, and I grew up on Prince Edward Island. My career as an iron worker turned into a country artist after I shot the music video for Ain’t Enough Hours on the Confederation Bridge in 1997.  I continue to write, record, and tour as Randy J Martin and as a member of the band Sweet Tequila.

Tell us a bit about your recent release.

Drop Of Rain is the classic story of a small rural farmer trying to save his farm, preserving his family’s legacy, and how it relates to the challenges of an average person trying to make it today in a fast-moving world.

How do you typically go about the songwriting process? Do you have a specific method or creative routine that you follow?

Usually, I start with a concept or title… Either the concept leads to the title or the other way around. The evolved emotions or memories lead to the storyline imagery and melody comes straight from God.

Looking ahead, what are your plans for supporting this new release? Are there any upcoming tours, music videos, or additional content that fans can look forward to in connection with this project?

Right now, all my focus is on completing the record, building the foundation to support the art, website, socials, etc.  I continue to tour at the moment with Sweet Tequila but hope to tour eastern Canada soon, perhaps next summer.

Looking back on your musical career, is there a particular moment or accomplishment that you consider a turning point or a highlight?

There have been many fond highlights. A few exceptional ones would include filming the music video for “Ain’t Enough Hours” on the Confederation Bridge and Touring across Canada with the legendary Stompin Tom as his opening act.

Last but not least, it’s time to pay it forward, what upcoming band or artist would you recommend your fans check out?

Check out an up-and-coming Ben Chase. That kid has a ton of charisma, entertains great, and sings like the wind. He’s gonna be a star.
