“The vibe was perfect – everything that could’ve gone right, did. I ended up freestyling the entire song, and it blew everyone’s mind.

First off, care to introduce yourself to our readers?

Hi, I’m ZYHIER a 22-year-old musician and singer-songwriter from Toronto, Canada

“FEVR DRM” is such a unique name for a track. Can you share more about the dream that inspired it and how it shaped the song’s vibe?

FEVR DRM was inspired by a dream I had that felt so real, that I began to think it was my reality. The lyrics are based on a conversation I had with a girl that I was dating. When I told her about the dream, she told me that I had to make a song about it. In the dream, I’m married with a family and I’m stuck in a time loop,  experiencing the same day over and over and it always ends with me losing my wife. So each time I’m reliving that day, I’m trying to make the best of it by showing my wife an experience she’s never had before. Hoping to get it right before we disappear and I can wake up. It’s a dreamy trance-like feeling.

The track blends R&B, hip-hop, and pop effortlessly. How do you approach weaving different genres into your music to create your unique sound?

I was exposed to many different genres of music growing up which is reflected in a lot of my music. Over the years, I’ve developed a unique ear for things when it comes to making music. My musical taste dips into every genre. I’m always looking to expand and explore different music and sounds just based on my musical curiosity from childhood and my culture. Right now, our generation is exposed to many different musical styles on social media and with everything being so accessible it’s hard to pinpoint any specific genre that I’m into right now.

What lessons or influences have shaped your artistry the most?

My mom will tell you I was humming in tune from when I was a baby. The musical gene came from my dad who had a foray in the music industry as a producer and talent manager. He also had an extensive collection of vinyl records so I was unwittingly exposed to music and musicians at a very early age. Growing up, music found its way to me in a lot of ways. but my aunt played a really big part in me even making music. We used to make songs together on this T-Pain microphone I had as a kid and that is when we noticed I had a natural ability to make music. She would always tell me I was good, but back then I cared more about basketball and wrestling.

I’ve learned to capitalize on what’s in front of me with my father and mother encouraging me to focus on what feeds my curiosity and what motivates me. They taught me to not be afraid to put in the work that’s needed to grow and develop my skills to a level that I could create something people would appreciate. I’ve learned to embrace the challenges as a pathway to my growth as I continue my journey as an artist. When I look at what I’ve done so far, remaining persistent and navigating challenges is how I’ve been able to get to this point.

Can you share a favorite memory or story from your journey as a musician so far?

One of my favourite memories so far is being in the studio with my friends, making this song called “suzie”. It was an extremely hot day but the heat mixed with the good vibes created a real euphoric experience that helped to bring the song to life. It felt like everyone genuinely wanted to be there that day,  just hanging out and enjoying good company. It was a really cool bonding experience and I’ll always cherish that.

What can fans expect from you next? Are there more songs or an album in the works?

Right now I’m working on releasing more singles and really getting the music out to the people. I’m excited to announce that my next song “METEOR SHOWER” will be released very soon. I’m extremely excited to share this new song with the world and I hope everyone will enjoy it as much as I do.
