Last night, US pop-soul group Lawrence brought all the funk to Montreal’s Beanfield Theater!
The Family Business Tour, named after the fourth studio album, is a true story, with the band being led by siblings Gracie and Clyde Lawrence. The “business” side manifests itself with a truly comical video intro (parody of oh-so-many corporate new employee onboarding videos), and little touches around the stage with a water cooler, (visibly) fake plants, and filing boxes labeled with “band taxes”, “breakfast/lunch”, “a whole bunch of stuff”, the list goes on..
The production was also surprisingly polished for a show of this side, with big screens showing lyrics karaoke-style, and bright and beautiful lights that turned the whole venue into a dance party! Accompanied by a ton of musicians, including their own horns section, the band puts on a very musically dynamic show. Gracie stunned by her unique energy and wonderful vocals, while Clyde took front and centre with his keyboard, conducting the show along. It was a fun and warming evening, that makes us want to apply for a job at the family business immediately!
