Ryan Keown shares new single & video, “I Know You Like That”
Multiple MCMA Award winner and back-to-back FANS’ CHOICE (2016/2017), Ryan Keown (pron Cowan) has exploded and garnered National and International success. His previous release “BEST THING” cracked BOTH the TOP 50 Mediabase & TOP 50 Billboard Charts and peaked at #44 Nationally! Ryan has won Male Vocalist (Canada) honours at the Josie Music Awards in Nashville, TN in 2017 and Song of the Year at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, TN at the 2023 Josie Music Awards. Ryan is excited to leverage his experience and recent success with the release of his single & video for “I KNOW YOU LIKE THAT”.
First off care to introduce yourself to our readers?
Absolutely! I am a country music recording artist living in Roblin, MB. I am a real estate broker by day, and father to three boys with my wife Zoe. I started playing bars when I was 14 years old, so I got started very early and just never looked back. Around 18 years of age I won Dauphin’s Countryfest Talent Search and the Bud Country Talent Search which led to myself recording songs, getting on the radio, and ultimately opening concerts for touring artists that were making their way across Canada.
Tell us a bit about your recent release.
This song was pitched to us by a publishing company in Nashville. I liked the song immediately but am extremely careful on what songs I record so I ended up sitting on it for over a year. I kept going back to it and was hearing things we could do in the studio to make it my own. It was recorded in Saskatoon at Bart McKay Studios and I am very happy with what we have created.
How do you typically go about the songwriting process? Do you have a specific method or creative routine that you follow?
Songwriting is very sacred and still a huge thing for myself. You immerse yourself in the melody and lyrics and are very vulnerable to your audience so its intimidating for sure. I get ideas and write them down on a notepad, or record a melody on my iPhone to capture the moment and not lose my idea. From there, I basically just grab my guitar and see if I can make it into something special. Again, I find myself going back and making revisions until I feel I have it perfect.
Looking ahead, what are your plans for supporting this new release? Are there any upcoming tours, music videos, or additional content that fans can look forward to in connection with this project?
I am just finishing the final production of my music video for this single which is so much fun! I absolutely love adding the next layer of creativity, and the visual story is likely my favorite. You put so much heart and soul into the sound and audio aspects, then can just have fun creating the visual story for everyone to see my interpretation of the song.
Looking back on your musical career, is there a particular moment or accomplishment that you consider a turning point or a highlight?
That’s a great question. I’ve had some incredible opportunities and played some incredible stages, but the highlight of my career thus far has been being nominated and winning “Best Modern Male Country Song” at the 2023 Josie Music Awards in Nashville, TN. It was an incredible experience to hear your name called and go on stage into the Opry Circle to accept an award and make an acceptance speech in front of a sold-out crowd. Definitely bucket list kinda stuff for sure!
Last but not least, it’s time to pay it forward, what upcoming band or artist would you recommend your fans check out?
I am definitely partial to this artist, but I highly recommend everyone check out Austin Ryder and his new single “SPIN”. Austin is my oldest son and has decided to pursue his music. He has recorded his first single and done a video for it too. He has a fresh look and voice that I believe many fans will be drawn to. He goes by Austin Ryder (his middle name) as I wanted him to carve his own path and not have any influence from his last name (Keown). This gives him a chance to make this his own, and we are so proud of him and enjoy watching his career grow!
