Love was the fing in Montreal last night, with IDLES playing the first of two sold-out MTelus shows!
Mercury Prize winners English Teacher opened the evening in front of a growing audience. A quote we heard in the crowd best describes their set: “wow, someone really taught those kids how to play music!”. Led by front woman Lily Fontaine, the indie band rocked the stage, and rocked it hard!
Shortly after 9pm, IDLES arrived onstage to a thunder of applause. For the next two hours, the British fivesome put on an electric performance! Lead singer Joe Talbot paces around the stage with so much charisma and showmanship, but also getting real with the audience and telling his vulnerable story of addiction recovery. The set was raw, gritty, and you could just feel the energy bouncing off the sweaty crowd, who gave their all nonstop from IDEA 01 to Rottweiler. For their first headlining indoor show in town in 6 years (they did play a memorable set a OSHEAGA in 2022), the band gave a masterclass in Brit punk-rock, a show that will remain in the MTelus archives of epic nights!
If you missed out on last night’s shenanigans, IDLES will be playing MTelus again tonight! The show is currently sold out, but with a handful of affordable resale tickets available on Evenko’s website!
