Blues Rock Guitarist Frank Cosentino Readies to Conquer the Airwaves with New Single “VIBIN” Ahead of COMEBACK Album Release
Blues rock guitarist Frank Cosentino is ready to take over the airwaves with the new single “VIBIN’.”
After more than four decades of touring, writing, and producing new music Frank Cosentino realized he needed to change his lifestyle.
“I overcame the challenges of addiction and got sober seven years ago,” he stated. “With renewed inspiration, I returned to songwriting with increased focus and energy.”
After working with producer Derek Downham at Studio Cardinal Toronto, Cosentino is ready to release his next album to the world.
The upcoming album, aptly titled COMEBACK, includes his soon-to-be-hit ‘VIBIN’, which will take over the airwaves on July 23, 2024.
“The story of ‘VIBIN’ symbolizes my journey,” he explained. “Fate guided me towards collaboration with Juno-winning producer Derek Downham. Together we brought my newfound creativity to life. Throughout the process, my progress was evident and I emerged as a stronger writer, player, and human.”
Cosentino’s guitar-driven blues rock, combined with his poetic lyric style, will wow fans and newcomers to his music alike. Inducted into The Blues Hall of Fame as a Master Blues Artist in 2017, Cosentino is considered a real gentleman of the blues, making it his mission to keep the art of blues guitar growing and moving forward.
His new music does just that – drawing on his past experiences, which include sharing the stage with greats like Buddy Guy, Johnny Winter, and Jeff Healy, and new blues talents Sue Foley, Phillip Sayce, and Anthony Gomes, Cosentino creates new classic blues in his personal style.
“It’s been my personal goal as a producer to work with other artists who have a grand understanding of their respected genres and Frank Cosentino has been a lifelong stalwart of blues and a ferocious lead player,” stated Downham, who plays keyboard, drums and bass on the track.
Frank’s goal is to ignite and stoke the flames of ambition at the heart of the listener. A song that pushes forward against the naysayers and gatekeepers, the hero is within each and every one of us but you can’t wait for the call. We ultimately walk alone into the ring to face the variables life hurls at us. Weather the storm and your reward is truly living a life fulfilled.
COMEBACK will hit music retailers in Canada on September 20th, 2024.
What have you been up to since we last spoke? “VIBIN'” marks a significant moment in your career.
In the time that has passed since our last discussion, I have been thoroughly engaged in the creative process, encompassing both the writing and recording of a new record, as well as the fulfillment of our outstanding gig obligations. This experience has been incredibly invigorating and satisfying, reflecting the passion that has driven me for the past four decades.
How did this single come about, and what does it symbolize for you personally?
“VIBIN’” marks a memorable milestone in my professional journey. The song originated from a spontaneous writing session, where my hands played a melody and instinctively found the corresponding chords, creating a tune that resonated deeply. The lyrics reflect the universal experience of losing one’s first love and the lasting impact it can have on our lives. As someone who wears their heart on their sleeve, I poured my emotions into this song, making it a symbol of the bittersweet feelings we all share. This song is my way of giving voice to the collective experience of love and loss.
What was the experience like recording at Studio Cardinal Toronto with Derek Downham, and how did it impact the creation of your album?
My time recording at Studio Cardinal (Toronto) with Derek Downham was a productive and transformative experience. Derek’s remarkable musical prowess and attentiveness to detail enable him to draw out my full potential as an artist. The preservation of the original vibe of my songs was much appreciated, and I am grateful for the opportunity to have worked with such a gifted Producer.
You’ve shared the stage with legendary blues artists. … How have these experiences shaped your approach to playing and writing blues rock today?
Performing alongside numerous legendary artists has been an absolute privilege. The lessons I have learned from these industry giants backstage have been instrumental in my development as a musician. My formal music education pales in comparison to the knowledge gained from these face-to-face interactions. I embrace the term ‘Lifer’, dedicated to pushing the boundaries of music while staying grounded in the foundations laid by the likes of Muddy Waters and showing respect to those who came before us.
How does your induction into The Blues Hall of Fame influence your perspective on your music and your role in the blues community?
My induction as a Master Blues Artist into the Blues Hall of Fame was a surprise I never anticipated. It reinforced the age-old adage that one can never predict who is paying attention to their work. Following the initial euphoria, the weight of the responsibility that comes with this honor settled in. I recognize the importance of serving as a dedicated ambassador and remaining true to this art form by playing it with sincerity and respect. I must also remember the pioneers who paved the way for me in this industry.
