Societal Dissonance in Moira Chicilo’s new single “Cry Of The Magpie”
Vancouver’s Indie-Folk Singer-Songwriter Moira Chicilo has a new single “Cry Of The Magpie” via World Peach Records
“I wrote this song after driving through the forest fires in BC last summer. The reality of climate change is hitting hard, and sometimes it’s hard to know what to do, how to cope, and how to help. So in this song, I was interested in the societal dissonance about saying we value nature, yet we carry on with the normalities of life while the world burns. The image of the magpie comes from when I was growing up; when the magpies sit by the window and wake us up every morning with its harsh, rattling call. We’d complain, then go about our day and forget about it, then complain again the next morning. Somehow it felt fitting for this song.”
