Rising Canadian Country Singer-Songwriter Mitch Zorn To Release New Single “Home”
Rising Canadian country singer-songwriter Mitch Zorn has unveiled his catchy new single “Home,” via 604 Records.
Mitch’s storytelling prowess is evident in “Home” where he paints an emotional picture of leaving home for work and the heart longing to be back with the one he loves. Produced by THE RENAISSANCE (Dan Botch and Garrett Ward), the song also beautifully sums up Zorn’s ‘full circle’ musical and personal journey, from leaving his hometown of Nakusp, BC to live across Canada and the US, and returning back ten years later.
“It’s one of those songs that just seemed to fall out of the sky,” said Mitch Zorn. “I wrote it in twenty minutes. And, personally, it’s the song that’s the most ‘me’ in terms of finding my sound.”
First off, care to introduce yourself to our readers?
Yeah! My name is Mitch Zorn, I’m a singer-songwriter from Nakusp, BC. I grew up in a small town hunting/fishing and playing hockey. I started in a country/blues band with my father at around 10 and toured around playing weddings, dances, and private gigs around my hometown, and this year, I signed my first record deal with 604 Records!
“Home” captures a deeply personal journey for you. Can you share more about the inspiration behind the song and what it means to you personally?
For sure, so after I graduated I went to school to be an electrician, and spent most of my twenties in the oil and gas industry traveling around to different jobs. In 2018, I landed a contract in Texas working 4 weeks on and 2 weeks off. I spent most of my time in Nashville on my weeks off and this song is just about the journey of traveling for a living and working on the road. I’ve lived it for a long time and I’m grateful for the experiences, but it has definitely come with some challenges so that’s what “Home” is about.
Working with THE RENAISSANCE on “Home”, how did their production style complement your artistic vision for the song?
I think with my background in music, I listen to a lot of different styles and genres including rock and so do those boys. I think as you know Vancouver has a rich history of rock, with the neo-grunge thing that when on in the early 2k’s, and I’m not sure they know it or not but they bring a lot of those elements to their production style. They’ve dipped their feet in the country world in the last few years and I think the combination of that has definitely influenced my sound and style. It’s been nothing but a positive experience working with those boys!!
Signing with 604 Records marks a significant milestone in your career. How has this partnership influenced your approach to releasing music and reaching new audiences?
I think it’s definitely made me take my approach to songwriting a little differently. I’m influenced by a lot of different types of music so I’ve had to be a little more direct with my style and elements of the genre, but creatively they’ve given me full control to do that. I have a really good team around me to help me push the songs out there and get them heard where they need to be heard, I can’t wait to get these new songs out there into the world!
As you prepare for upcoming performances at Boots & Boats and Sunfest Country Music Festival, what are you most looking forward to sharing with your live audience?
They’re two different atmospheres for sure one being a full scale, full band music festival and one being more of an intimate storytelling based festival so I’m excited to wear both hats. I think we’re definitely gonna turn it up at Sunfest and buy into the energy of the summer and hopefully give the live audience a good send off into the weekend as we’re playing the opening kick off party on the Thursday night. I’m really looking forward to that. With Boots and Boats, I’m looking forward to dialing it back a little bit, and getting a little more into the songwriting side of my songs, and sharing some new tunes AND some old tunes. I’m excited for a good mix of both styles for sure!
Looking ahead, what can fans expect from your forthcoming album? Are there any themes or stories you’re excited to explore further through your music?
Yeah, this album has been a culmination of 10 years of living, travelling, and experiencing life in my 20s and I think each song has captured a different moment in time and tells my story from a different perspective. My career and my songwriting is very personal to me so I look forward to introducing myself to the world that way. We’ve captured elements of rock, soul, and of course, all built on a foundation of country music so I look forward to seeing what people think! I’m very proud of the songs and the records as a whole!
