Toronto-born Canadian-Italian singer-songwriter Andrea Ramolo performed at The Carleton in Halifax on Wednesday, June 12th, with Nova Scotia-based artist Kristen Martell opening the show.

Folk-pop artist Kristen Martell kicked off the night with a set that included several songs, featuring one she had never played live before titled “Marilyn Monroe,” which she recently rediscovered among her earlier work. As a bilingual artist, Martell also performed a French song she had written. She is currently working on a Francophone album, set to be released later this year or in early 2025, which will honour her Acadian heritage.

Andrea Ramolo was next to hit the stage, accompanied by her electric baritone guitar, Danny. She enriched her performance by introducing each song with stories, adding depth to her lyrics as the crowd listened attentively. Ramolo performed tracks from her latest album, Quarantine Dream, including “Road Kill” and “Italian Summer,” and also delved into her older catalogue with songs like “You’re Everywhere.” This month, Andrea Ramolo released an album titled The South with energetic Italian band Kalàscima. She treated the audience to an acoustic rendition of her Italian love song for her grandmother, “Bella Ci Dormi.”

The evening at The Carleton was a celebration of musical diversity and cultural heritage, which left the audience deeply moved and captivated. The show ended with Andrea and Kristen performing a duet of Andrea’s 2008 song “Thank You for the Ride.”
