Lean In Is the Message of Danielle Schroeder’s New Single, “Dying Light”
Ambient Folk Singer/Songwriter Danielle Schroeder has unveiled the new single, “Dying Light.”
“Dying Light” is a galvanizing anthem that blends an infectious groove with stirring lyrics, infusing it with an energy that ignites sparks of possibility at a time when so many of us want to insulate in a cocoon of safety.
The chorus sets the tone with its uptempo chant, a defiant mantra against despair, echoing the refusal to surrender to the weight of encroaching darkness.
“Dying Light” urges us to lean into what can’t yet be seen with unwavering resolve, to remember that even in the darkest of nights, there’s a glimmer of light waiting to be revealed.
First off care to introduce yourself to our readers?
I am a singer-songwriter grateful to live on the stolen lands of Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil waututh nations, also known as Vancouver, BC. I am a mother of two daughters, who keep me on my toes, and also a counsellor. Songwriting and playing guitar have been passions of mine since my early 20s. At the time I never imagined a day would come when I would share my music publicly in the way I am today. For years it was very much a way for me to process my emotions, especially in the work I did supporting people living with cancer and those at the end of life. I grew up as a teenager in the 90s so a lot of my songwriting has been inspired by incredible female artists such as Joni Mitchell, Tracy Chapman, Natalie Merchant, Ani Difrano, India Arie, and Sarah Machlachlan,
Tell us a bit about your recent release.
‘Dying Light’ is the third single I’ve released for my newest record coming out June 21st called ‘Between Two Worlds’. The previous single I released ‘Undertow’ was a much more introspective and meditative song, so I am excited to now release ‘Dying Light,’ which I really feel is a galvanizing anthem that blends an infectious groove with stirring lyrics, infusing it with an energy that I hope can ignite sparks of courage and possibility for listeners at a time when so many of us seem to be insulating in a cocoon of safety.
How do you typically go about the songwriting process? Do you have a specific method or creative routine that you follow?
Good question! Songwriting is such an intuitive process for me, in the sense that rarely does it happen when I am thinking or trying too hard with my cognitive mind. Rather songs tend to emerge when I least expect it, and usually during a time when I am either wrestling with or trying to make sense of something that makes no sense at all in our world, or when I’m moving through something deeply emotional in my life. What I have found is that when I am quiet and present enough with myself, which usually happens outside on my little rooftop deck, with my guitar in hand, a song starts to appear, as though it was carried by the wind!
Looking ahead, what are your plans for supporting this new release? Are there any upcoming tours, music videos, or additional content that fans can look forward to in connection with this project?
I will be playing a show for the release of this new record with my full band on June 9th at Guilt & Co in Vancouver. I also have two more single releases that will follow ‘Dying Light’. The next single and music video will be for the song ‘Stand Together’ which is a song that calls on us to find the courage to stand together in our hearts at a time when so much tension in humanity wants to pull us apart. I also hope to play more shows to support this record release in the fall of 2024.
Looking back on your musical career, is there a particular moment or accomplishment that you consider a turning point or a highlight?
I definitely know a big turning point for me in my musical career was when I first recognized that I wanted to include more instruments, and dynamic sounds in the songs I wrote. This meant having to find the courage to ask talented musicians to collaborate with me. That was a moment when I had to push through major imposter syndrome and believe in the songs I wrote. There’s no question that the songs I have written, recorded, and performed since taking that big step have taken the songs to the next level and are helping me put them out there more in the world.
Last but not least, it’s time to pay it forward, what upcoming band or artist would you recommend your fans check out?
Emerald Osagie.
