Mark Winters Elevates “Speed of Light” with Captivating Lyric Video

Mark Winters, an indie-rocker and real-life rocket scientist, drops the lyric video for his latest single “Speed of Light,” offering a visual relativity experience that marries his love for astrophysics with his sonic craft.

Mark Winters is no stranger to the spotlight. As a multifaceted artist, he seamlessly blends soulful songwriting with thought-provoking poetry, earning him comparisons to musical icons like John Mayer, Tom Petty, and Jason Mraz. Winters brings a unique and quirky perspective to his craft, setting him apart as a true innovator in the indie-rock scene.

“Embarking on a ride at the ‘Speed of Light’ unveils the universe’s secrets, from the shifting gears of quantum realms to the vibrant blooms revealed by cosmic velocities,” says Winters. “It’s more than music; it’s a journey through the mysteries of space, time, science and the heart.”

“Speed of Light,” released on April 26th and showcases Winters’ trademark blend of lively guitar riffs and poignant lyrics. The song resonates with listeners on a deep, soul-connecting level, offering a glimpse into the artist’s introspective journey through life’s highs and lows.

Critically, “Speed of Light” resonates as more than just another track. It’s a bold, artistic statement from Winters, whose dual identity as musician and scientist allows him to craft experiences that are intellectually stimulating and emotionally rich. The video is a clear extension of his philosophy, showcasing not only his understanding of the universe’s mechanics but also his ability to translate these complex ideas into accessible, relatable art.

Listeners and viewers are invited to embark on this stellar journey, where the music and visuals collide in a big bang of indie rock and scientific wonder. It’s not often that a song can feel like a discovery of a new planet or a forgotten truth about the cosmos, but Winters achieves this with a finesse that’s both rare and deeply necessary in today’s music scene.

First off care to introduce yourself to our readers?

I’m Mark Winters, a singer-songwriter, guitarist, poet, and science nerd from Sugar Land, Texas. I love to get out in the world and meet new people and have adventures, and many of my musical ideas spark when I’m out admiring the beauty in the world. My grandmother taught me the joy of art (poetry, painting, nature…) when I was a small boy. I often write haiku’s in the early morning hours to process my day. I guess she is still with me, guiding my hand. I started my music journey in 2011 singing a song to my wife for our anniversary. I have been hooked delivering music to the world ever since!

Tell us a bit about your recent release.

I am a bit of a science nerd, as well as poetry. I was in the day-to-day grind of a working musician, feeling like I was stuck in a rut, riding the same road every day with nowhere to go. A science podcast I was listening to reminded me of Albert Einstein’s relativity journey, riding a bike at the speed of light and looking at himself standing still. It was an unlock for me, a level up to allow my mind to see myself moving at the speed of light and standing still and gain perspective that I was moving and changing, feeling a sense of accomplishment even though the day to day grind was wearing on me. My new song Speed of Light was born!

How do you typically go about the songwriting process? Do you have a specific method or creative routine that you follow?

I’m a poet first, usually jotting down a few haiku’s in the morning to process what I’m feeling, before the news, podcasts, emails or the rest of the world comes rushing in. One or 2 of the haikus I write each month will stick with me, and I will explore making them into a song. My process used to be a bit random on the approach, but after my songwriting retreat with Andrea Stople (yay, she’s amazing), I’ve been using a free write/object write, chorus and then verse approach. It’s really helped me unlock a better narrative. Recently I joined Studio Online, and have been learning how others navigate their melodic choices, I’m experimenting with that now.

Looking ahead, what are your plans for supporting this new release? Are there any upcoming tours, music videos, or additional content that fans can look forward to in connection with this project?

I’m having fun creating videos and sciencey facts meet real life on social media. I plan to continue nerding out and combining it with my outdoor passions (surfing, rollerblading, hiking). I have shows booked this year and more collaborations with other artists in the area. My friend Rochelle Gomes and I have written a few songs together and are enjoying playing live shows with each other and Michael Shanks. I have an all-acoustic album Michael is producing with me, and Rochelle’s beautiful voice is featured as well. I’m excited to see it out in the world. I’ve also written a few new tunes with my son (who is an amazing country vocalist). I also have a tour in the spring of 2025 that’s starting to come together (Texas to the West Coast and Canada, yay!).

Looking back on your musical career, is there a particular moment or accomplishment that you consider a turning point or a highlight?

Singing my first song to my wife for our anniversary was the spark that hooked me on my original music journey. From that point, I’ve had an amazing time collaborating with the musical community in Houston and Austin. Looking forward to some bigger opening act opportunities in Houston and for some festivals in 2025. Keep your fingers crossed!

Last but not least, it’s time to pay it forward, what upcoming band or artist would you recommend your fans check out?

Houston has some amazing talent, I would definitely check out Max Burgess, Juan Sui, Mary Hammer, and my rock band friends at East of Eado. On a bigger act front I’m dying to see The Red Clay Strays live, they are killer!
