First off, care to introduce yourselves to our readers?
We are The Art of Deception, a metalcore/deathcore band from Pine Grove Pennsylvania. You’ve probably never heard of it haha. We’ve been a band for 9 years and this is our first time ever playing in Canada!
Tell us a bit about your latest release.
We released our latest single “Isolated” back in January. It’s off our upcoming EP titled “Imminence”.
How did you react when you heard you were chosen to play Decimate Metalfest?
We were ecstatic!! We are absolutely stoked to hit the stage and put on a show for you all! Honored to be a part of this festival for our first run in Canada
As a band, how important is it for you to perform at festivals like Decimate, where diversity and inclusion are celebrated, including featuring youth bands?
It’s awesome to see a festival that includes and welcomes people from different walks of life. We’re all united by a love for metal music and we’re excited to meet everyone who has made this possible. We feel that festivals like Decimate are important and set the tone for being both exciting and welcoming.
Have you had the chance to check out the lineup for Decimate Metalfest, and if so, are there any bands you’re particularly excited to see perform?
We are excited to see all these bands from the Edmonton and Calgary area! Currently, we are most familiar with our tour mates “Detest The Throne”. We’re pumped to meet all these performers. We love meeting and connecting with other bands.
How does your band approach crafting a setlist for a festival like Decimate Metalfest, considering the range of bands and genres represented in the lineup?
Honestly, we want to take you through a full catalog of our set over the years, we’re gonna get to play some new unreleased tracks, some originals from when we first came out, and everything in between. From metalcore to deathcore, it’s going to be a trip through all the years we can’t wait to show you all.
Last but not least, what advice do you have for metal bands just starting out?
Find what style you all connect with and resonates with each member. Whether it’s fast and shredding or slow and doomy, everyone in the band should enjoy what they’re playing. Stay true to yourself, be humble. Network as much as possible. Stay to watch and talk with fans and fellow bands. Every band benefits from the show of support and those connections often lead to the next big opportunity!
