Kofi shares new single, “Impatient” (Interview)

Kofi Unveils New Single, “Impatient,” Along With Lyric Video

Afro-Canadian artist Kofi has unveiled the latest single, “Impatient,” and is making waves across streaming platforms. Released via Red Bull Records / The Orchard, this track marries the hypnotic rhythms of Afrobeats with the soulful essence of R&B, creating an atmospheric blend that’s both mesmerizing and emotionally resonant.

Accompanied by a stunning time-lapse visualizer, “Impatient” paints a poignant picture of a relationship fading into the background. With his signature sleek vocals and rhythmic percussion, Kofi delivers a slow-burning anthem that will leave listeners craving more.

First off, care to introduce yourself to our readers?

Hey, I’m Kofi, a singer-songwriter/producer from Scarborough Ontario. When I’m not making music, I’m a professional volleyball player.

Congratulations on the release of your latest single, “Impatient.” Can you share with us the creative process behind this track and what inspired its lyrics?

So that song started off as a chord progression I played initially to send to somebody else, but after listening back to it, I couldn’t help but to write. For me, the song is about loneliness and missing a person for who they once were, even though they are with you.

“Impatient” showcases a captivating blend of atmospheric Afrobeats and R&B. Could you delve deeper into the musical elements that contribute to the song’s unique sound and atmosphere?

I think this song is a direct result of who I am and where I come from. I am Ghanaian Canadian, which means I have the Afrobeats influence from my upbringing, but I also have the Dark R&B soul music of Toronto. Impatient is just a blend of that.

How did you come up with the concept and bring to life the time-lapse visualizer that accompanies “Impatient,” enriching the overall listening experience?

Well, when it was time to shoot that video, I was in Finland finishing up my season, so it wasn’t going to be that easy to find a cinematographer out there. My manager & I shot it ourselves, we really wanted to deliver a captivating visualizer. We eventually came up with the concept which was intended to show the disconnect one can feel in a relationship despite being physical with the person.

With over 65 million career streams to date, you’ve built a significant following. How do you engage with your fans, and what role do they play in shaping your musical journey?

I owe everything to my fans, it’s still crazy for me to think how many people listen to my music every day and that I could be part of their lives. I try to answer as many DM’s as possible, and anytime somebody asks me about an unreleased song that I took down from the streaming platforms, I always send it.

Balancing your music career with playing volleyball professionally requires a lot of dedication. How do you manage your time between these two passions, and do you find any similarities between sports and music in terms of discipline and teamwork?

It’s easy to balance both when you’re passionate about both endeavors. Especially when playing in Europe, there’s typically a six-seven-hour time difference so by the time I’m done with volleyball for the day my music workday begins so I am working a double shift, but it doesn’t feel like work. There are also parts of music that help in volleyball and vice versa. Both are performances at the end of the day. One is just on the court, and one is on the stage, and knowing how to handle high-pressure situations in both helps one another.
