“Lil’ Kindness” is a captivating indie-pop anthem, featuring compelling vocals that weave a tale of the beauty found in small acts of compassion. With its infectious melodies and poignant lyrics, such as “maybe you can find just a lil’ kindness, send it my way,” the song resonates deeply, serving as a heartfelt reminder of the transformative power of kindness in a chaotic world.”
Lim has spread out the release of her 4-track debut EP starting with her first single, “Being Someone,” released last Valentine’s Day. The collection of songs was meant to showcase her broad influences ranging from pop, blues, rock, folk, jazz, reggae, and classical. This diversity of musical tastes culminates in her particular indie-folk-pop sound.
“I’m not really interested in emulating popular trends in music. I just want to make music that speaks to me and moves me and I love all kinds of music.”
Although she cites Bob Dylan and other folk music as major influences on her songwriting, she is also a pop fiend and funk fan, loves gospel music, and loves to dance. Two of her favourite bands are Parliament-Funkadelic and Toots and the Maytals. She was lucky enough to see one of George Clinton’s last shows in London in 2022 and had seen Toots in Toronto years ago.
Multi-instrumentalist and producer, James Atin-Godden, who produced all 4 tracks and is currently working with Lim on her sophomore album, enjoyed experimenting with different sounds and genres, including world rhythms, on this latest offering.
“It’s a joyful spiralling journey of a song and the track took us down some turns that we never expected. It came together in this amazing way where everything fit perfectly, and I found myself very much affected by it. The best part is the ending, which culminated from various happy accidents.”
