‘The Circle Continues – Stanfest Celebrates Bruce Guthro’ concert kicks off festival in Canso, Nova Scotia, July 25
The Stan Rogers Folk Festival (Stanfest) announces ‘The Circle Continues – Stanfest Celebrates Bruce Guthro’ as this year’s festival kick off concert in Canso, Nova Scotia on Thursday, July 25 at 7 p.m.
A multi-artist celebration of Bruce Guthro’s life and music, the Mainstage concert will feature performances by Dave Gunning, Irish Mythen, Jodi and Dylan Guthro, J.P. Cormier, Kim Dunn, Lennie Gallant, Lucy MacNeil, Matt Andersen, the Men of the Deeps, and more to be announced soon.
“Bruce was such a core member of the Stanfest team. We often consider him as a co-founder. Our audience developed such a close relationship with him over the years, it was a given that we would stage a major, mainstage event,” says festival producer and Executive Director, Troy Greencorn. “He played all but a few festivals, when Runrig tours took him elsewhere around the globe. Always an ambassador, Bruce helped to establish our brand and took every opportunity to speak about the event in his shows. He also was a great talent scout, often sending us tips and referrals. A very young and early-career Johnny Reid is one example that springs to mind. Bruce was very astute at the music business, and a great programmer, so he often was a source for advice and ideas.
“The Celebration of Life for Bruce in Sydney last September was such a memorable night. Many of our audience members wouldn’t have been able to attend, so we wanted to provide this opportunity to celebrate the man and the music, shares newly announced Artistic Director, Steve MacIntyre. “Expect a long concert with lots of stories, memories laughs and a few tears. We will follow it up with a good old fashion after party just a few steps away at the Canso Arena.”
