Cindë Tells the Tale of Her Transformation in “Villain Origin Story”
From the fiery depths of personal evolution, the enigmatic and bold multi-instrumentalist, Cindë, emerges with her latest creation, “Villain Origin Story.” This new single carves a narrative of metamorphosis from anguish to empowerment, chronicling the seismic shift from a betrayed lover to worst nightmare. “Villain Origin Story” is streaming now on all digital platforms worldwide via Spooky Action Records.
“Villain Origin Story,” which is a centerpiece of her forthcoming EP, More Awake Less Alive, heralds a turning point in Cindë’s musical odyssey. The track encapsulates the catastrophic level of rage born out of grief—painting a vivid picture of an angelic figure’s fall from grace and the resultant birth of a villain. It’s a song that’s as much a personal purging as it is a universal anthem for anyone who’s ever felt transformed by the trials of life. Cindë channels her tempestuous journey through the visceral lyrics and the thunderous chords, orchestrating a symphony of raw emotion that’s both haunting and invigorating.
On the track’s making, Cindë reflects,
“There was a point where the series of events that transpired and the level of hurt I experienced changed me as a person. I wrote the lyrics using dramatic biblical references combined with a heavy drop C guitar riff to really drive home the depth and proportion of the rage I felt.”
With production helmed by the acclaimed Mike Tompa (Silverstein, The Devil Wears Prada), the song’s intricate layers are expertly mixed by GRAMMY-nominated Phil Hotz (Elton John, Alvvays, Dua Lipa) and brought to full dimension by the mastering of Kristian Montano (Ciara, Alice Glass). This song is poised to become a rallying cry for those who refuse to remain silent in the face of adversity and encourages the listener to rise and be indomitable and defiant.
Cindë, known for her potent blend of pop-punk, emo, and industrial soundscapes, continues to defy genres and expectations. Her gripping storytelling and electrifying performances have earned her a spot in the vanguard of today’s music scene, resonating with fans across the globe. Having already made an impression in the industry with her initial radio hit “Hittin’ It” and collaborations that have achieved impressive streaming numbers, and lead single, “VICTIM!,” Cindë’s current endeavor is set to further solidify her status as a dynamic presence in the music world. Her previous success has included features on Spotify’s New Music Friday and acclaimed playlists like It’s a Bop and Pop All Day.
The release of “Villain Origin Story” promises to be a compelling addition to Cindë’s discography, inviting listeners to experience the transformation from victim to protagonist in their own life narratives. The track, available now on all digital platforms, leads the charge towards the full release of the EP, More Awake Less Alive. Prepare to be enthralled, inspired, and perhaps a touch villainous.
First off care to introduce yourself to our readers?
My name is Cinde and I’m an artist/songwriter/producer from Toronto, Canada. My new music is very guitar-driven and heavy which is exactly how I like it and I’ve been playing guitar for 20 years (that’s a weird number to say out loud haha). I’m shorter and less scary than I look on the internet. I like pink but I always wear black and one of my personal goals outside of pursuing music is to one day voice Eric Cartman or become a character on South Park.
Tell us a bit about your recent release.
It’s a monster. It’s MY monster. It’s the heaviest song I’ve ever released and it’s about the part of grief and heartbreak where you feel the most anger and carry the most spite, right before all the tears come flowing with overwhelming sadness. I’m really excited to release this because I was in hard rock and metal bands as a kid, so to be able to put out music that truly aligns with the genres I’ve always loved means everything. I also released it under my own label ‘Spooky Action Records’ which I started with my best friends Alex Biro and Mike Ticar from ‘Selfish Things’. We wrote ‘Villain Origin Story’ together too! We’ve all put so much time, money, and effort into building this label and artist roster together, and being able to release this song and EP through our passion project really makes it special to me.
How do you typically go about the songwriting process? Do you have a specific method or creative routine that you follow?
Most of the time the ideas come to me while experiencing life or looking at something interesting, prompting a thought or a question. The most resonant lyrics (to me) are bold statements but usually come out of raw conversation. A line or a melody will come out and I’ll just voice note it for later. Other times it starts with a riff I like and I build melodies from there.
Looking ahead, what are your plans for supporting this new release? Are there any upcoming tours, music videos, or additional content that fans can look forward to in connection with this project?
There are SO MANY VISUALS. The visuals are just as important to me as the music. Each release on this EP has an accompanying visualizer that furthers the storyline. They all take place in a white space inside my brain and each video walks through every stage of grief in its most raw and visceral form. I’ll also be teaching y’all how to play the riff when it comes out 😉
Looking back on your musical career, is there a particular moment or accomplishment that you consider a turning point or a highlight?
I have nominations and cool accolades and things I’m proud of but some of the moments that stuck out to me were at the shows I played in 2022-2023 where all these filled-up rooms sang the lyrics to my songs that I haven’t even put out yet. It’s one thing to have people sing your lyrics back to you, but when the songs aren’t even available to listen to outside of going to your shows – it’s an absolute honour to have my lyrics take up people’s brain space. That’s when the belief in myself started to feel a bit less delusional.
Last but not least, it’s time to pay it forward, what upcoming band or artist would you recommend your fans check out?
Quiet is one of my favourite new Alt-RnB artists. He tells such amazing stories, his voice is insane and you should hear him freestyle in a room, you’d freak. He has this song ‘Butterflies’ out right now that I think is really dope. you can find him on IG as @quiet.fm
