Tonight, The Last Dinner Party played their first-ever Canadian show in Montreal! The UK indie-rock band has been skyrocketing to fame as of late, including the Brits Rising Star award, so it’s no surprise that MTelus was sold-out and packed to the brim!

New York musician Miss Gritt opened the evening with a very conceptual set, plunged in darkness with only a projector lighting them and the stage!

Shortly after 9pm, the Brit six-piece arrived on stage to the sound of dramatic intro Prelude to Ecstasy. And a prelude to ecstasy it was, as the band kicked things into high gear with Burn Alive and Caesar on a TV screen. Beyond the obvious musical talent and lead Singer Abigail Morris’ undeniable showmanship, The Last Dinner Party stands out as an all female (and non-binary) band, retro outfits and ribbons. Also worth highlighting and celebrating: the band organized a food drive at every tour stop, taking in charity donations in exchange for merch! With 12 songs on the setlist (the length of Prelude to Ecstasy), the set clocked in just under an hour, which is on the shorter side for a headliner, but understandable as a band with only a debut album to their name. And while the songs were fewer than typically, they were memorable. Smash hit Nothing Matters closed out the evening, with Abigail standing on the barricade in front of delighted fans!

For a first show in Canada, tonight was a smash-hit for The Last Dinner Party, and we sure hope it won’t be the last in Montreal! (Osheaga 2025, maybe?)
