Toronto’s The Boathouse Share Ultra-slick single, “Leave It Behind”

Toronto yacht-rock outfit The Boathouse has unveiled their second single, “Leave It Behind,” which follows 2023’s “Pink Sun.”

First off, care to introduce yourself to our readers?

We are a yacht rock-inspired band from Toronto featuring Josh Trager on Drums (Sam Roberts Band), Vincent Spilchuk on keys and vocals (Dragonette, Bedouin Soundclash), Tristan Armstrong on Bass and Vocals, (The Actual Goners), and Ryan Farley (Oscar Tango) on Vocals and Guitar. We all love smooth bands from the 70’s and 80’s like Toto and Steely Dan, so this project came out of some impromptu jam sessions that inspired us to start writing originals.

Tell us a bit about your most recent release.

Our second single takes listeners far from the city and into the unknown. Thematically, “Leave it Behind” draws inspiration from the beloved 90s science fiction TV series The X-Files, as well as alien abduction films such as Fire in the Sky.

The lyrics are written from the perspective of a heartbroken and lonely paranormal investigator. After receiving reports regarding suspicious and seemingly unexplainable activities, our investigator makes his way to the location in a two-seat imported sports car in the hopes of witnessing these activities firsthand. Following his night in that unsettling expanse of cornfield his psychological state deteriorates as he attempts to carry on a world that no longer makes sense.

The mix was put together by Carlin Nicholson (Zeus), bringing an extra magic to the final product.
