Grandson, Monowhales, No Love for the Middle Child
Beanfield Theater, Montreal QC
July 17th, 2023
Tonight, Toronto’s Grandson brought his I Love You, I’m Trying Tour to a packed Beanfield Theater!
The evening kicked off with indie singer-songwriter-producer No Love for the Middle Child who kicked off his sets to broody vibes, hiding under a hoodie but was quick to shed some layers and finished his set jamming out shirtless! Andrew’s alternative vibes were the perfect way to slowly ramp up the crowd for the evening to come!
Up next, Ontario’s Monowhales took to the stage! We’ve covered the band a few times over the years (the last time being in March in Elora, ON), and frontwoman Sally Shaar never fails to amaze us with her charisma and stage presence! The set was high in energy, and such a bubbly and fun way to rock out while waiting for the main act of the night!
Shortly before 10pm, the man of the hour aka Grandson arrived crying on his little bench, the same cinematic entrance we witness at his Festival d’été de Québec set last weekend. From there, the lights got flashy, and the energy got high as he started jumping around the stage! For the following 90-minutes, the energy never faltered as he powered through a 23-track setlist, ending things on a high note with his track Blood//Water. Due to the pandemic and multiple logistical issues, it had been 4 years since we last saw Grandson headline a show in Montreal, and the long-awaited reunion was a success. Let’s now hope it’s not another 4 years before he comes back around town!
