Pranatricks Unveils New Single, “Cor-al” From Upcoming Album, Elements of

Vancouver, BC-based indie psych-folk artist, Pranatricks has unveiled his latest single, “Cor-al.”

“Cor-al” is the first single off of his second album Elements of. The tune is a psychedelic-infused folk song, introducing the listener to a new direction that the artist puts forth on his sophomore album. Crunched up echo guitars, laden with layered synth arpeggios and doubled vocals, the song meanders into the meadow of indie and psychedelia influences such as Khurangbin, Feist, and Chad VanGaalen. Released only 25 weeks after the full release of his first album ‘Cherished’, Pranatricks re-enters the musical landscape with a more full production, showcasing the artist and producer’s drive to expand his sonic influence, while honouring the past success of his first release. The forthcoming single follows a similar theme, reflecting the artist’s insatiable quest for truth. Willing to uncover the deepest and darkest of secrets and open the numerous closets where skeletons reside, there he encourages the listener to find out who and what they are.

“Sometimes there is no escaping something that is pulling at you. Rather than succombing to the inertia of desire, we can pause and reflect on the sensations arising and let them settle. Feelings and emotions are ultiamtely futile, present for a moment and then dissapated. The mind like a monkey, swinging from branch to branch, let them all go. I must be out of my mind, but I don’t mind.”

Pranatricks will be releasing 7 singles off his 10-track sophomore album Elements of in 6-week
intervals with the full album releasing April 4th, 2024.

Care to introduce yourself to our readers?

Hey, my name is Andrew. My act is called Pranatricks. I’m a Sagittarius, my favourite colour is blue and I enjoy long walks on the beach at sunset.

Tell us a bit about your most recent release.

Cor-al is a tune about wrestling with desire and the impulses associated with the emotion. A shiny bright object, the extra piece of chocolate cake, a beautiful person; there is a draw towards them without inhibition. Whether we act on the impulse or not, consequences arise. The song is meant to explore the impulse, like the angel and the devil resting on your shoulder there is a conversation that occurs. Ultimately, like all impulses or strong emotions, they are fleeting; they come, and they go. We can feel crazy when in the pull or polarity of our decisions, the choice then is a subjective one, but we may be more able, in time, to be objective in the process of arriving at a decision on whether to act or not.

I started recording the tune a few years ago. Usually, when I record music, I have a tune that is 95% written before I start recording it and then I will allow for new music to come while in the studio. This song was part of that new music that came. I had the basic structure and started to track it, laying down the guitar, rough vocals, and a couple of synth layers. Then I put it away for probably a year and it wasn’t until I was exploring songs for my second album ‘Elements of’ that I came across it and started building it a little more. I added another echo guitar and some more atmospheric layers to push it into the psychedelic realms of sonic ambience. It was a lot of fun revisiting, and it ended up being the first song on the album.

Where do you tend to pull inspiration from when writing?

I’m lucky to live in British Columbia and have recently relocated to Vancouver Island. I find myself in nature a lot and connecting to my environment. I need it, so I like to think that it informs a lot of my inspiration. That and meditation. I must be putting back into the vessel constantly in order to extract anything worthwhile. That’s really where Truth lies for me, sitting in the void of consciousness simply as an observer to the splendor of the universe.

Do you have any upcoming shows you’d like to tell us about?

Yes! I have five shows coming up in July on Vancouver Island.

July 20th in Victoria at the Mint, as part of Victoria Folk Night.

July 21st I play a free show at Comox Lake in Cumberland it’s in a beautiful setting right on this incredible lake.

July 22nd in Courtenay at a street festival.

July 28th at Mount Arrowsmith Brewing in Parksville.

July 29th at Fern and Cedar Brewing in Qualicum Beach.

What’s your goal for 2023?

In 2023 I am working on continuing to build an audience through the release of my second album, I’m rehearsing a band and am looking to do a little more touring with them. Ultimately, I love music and feel like it’s a requirement for me to be in the world, so I want to share it as widely and as often as possible, without losing my sense of home.
