august brodie Makes Wax Records Label Debut with “Hated You All Along”

Introducing the new nostalgia: pop punk artist august brodie makes his Wax Records debut with the hard-hitting single “Hated You All Along.” An irresistible ear-worm that blends the angst from your youth with today’s elevated production, “Hated You All Along” is available for streaming across platforms.

With a sharp attitude and bitter honesty in his lyricism – you stole my tee shirt / cheated ’till your knees hurt / told me that I need work / maybe it was you all along – august brodie strikes ferocious chord as he untangles the aftermath of an imploding relationship in what is sure to be the breakup anthem of the summer.

This song is me venting about a toxic relationship – but the bigger message I want people to hear is no more accepting fake sh*t. No more pretending to like something or put up with something you don’t deserve,” brodie shares. “Real love is hard to find, but once you find it you’ll know. This track is the stepping stone to realizing you’ve moved past it and that you deserve way better than what you had – so go get it.

august brodie may be making his label debut, but the Thunder Bay, ON local is no stranger to the music scene with over 2.5M streams and praise from the likes of MTV, MUCH, The Alternative Press, and Elevator Mag. Writing songs from the back of an ambulance during his late-night shifts as an EMT, august brodie is fuelled by a mission to get out of his small town and onto a stage to share his fiery blend of emo and pop-punk, which features an unexpected nod to hip hop roots.

I grew up on music like Taking Back Sunday, and I really wanted to bring back that 2000’s emo music vibe, but keep it mainstream enough for today. We set out to take pop punk, emo, and rap, and blend it all together to make something that anyone can vibe to.”

With more new music on tap and the official “Hated You All Along” music video to be unveiled, august brodie is creating a new generation of music ready to be screamed from the crowd.

Care to introduce yourself to our readers?

I’m august brodie, I’m a singer/songwriter from Thunder Bay, Ontario. Fusing Emo/Pop Punk/Hip Hop and Pop music for the past five years, I’ve found my niche and just recently signed my first record deal with Wax Records

Tell us a bit about your most recent release.

“Hated You All Along” is my first release with the label. Honestly, I think it all hit me, the first time the label flew me down to Toronto and we hit the studio and smashed this one out. We were all super stoked to collaborate and see how fast ideas came to life.  With this record, we wanted to bring back that 2000s emo sound and I think we nailed it.

Where do you tend to pull inspiration from when writing?

Honestly, I just go with the flow. A lot of my inspiration comes from growing up listening to emo and pop-punk bands, but also artists like Kid Cudi and Mac Miller when I was rapping more.  I take delivery and cadence from both of those sounds and I think it works out

Do you have any upcoming shows you’d like to tell us about?

Nothing I can speak to just yet, just focused on getting this new music out since I took some time off this year. I figure I’ll maybe smash this project out and then hell yeah, let’s do it live u know? But right now I’m focused on the music-making process.

What’s your goal for 2023?

The goal for 2023 is to keep growing and keep creating. I’d love to get a project out this year and then tour it next year. I’d also love to hit 1 million monthly listeners this year. That’s like a superficial goal but I really do want it.
