Montreal Jazz Festival
Day 1: June 29th, 2023
with George Benson and The Franklin Electric
The Montreal Jazz Festival is back, and already off to a great start! We started our evening over at Salle Wilfrid-Pelletier with the legendary George Benson! We already had the treat of witnessing the singer in action back in 2019, and we’re starting to suspect that George Benson has found the fountain of youth! Indeed, the jazz powerhouse just turned 80 years old, but still commands the stage flawlessly, and had the crowd grooving along the whole night!
We then made our way to MTelus to catch hometown heroes The Franklin Electric. The band hosted a very special show, as their latest album Oh Brother was set to release at midnight. We’ve caught the band at this venue many times over the years, the last time being in May 2022, and it works like a charm every time. Lead singer Jon Matte charmed the crowd with his unique voice, as he flawlessly jumped from an instrument to the next, taking the time to address his home crowd in French.
With a mix of legends and locals, night 1 of the Montreal Jazz Festival was a blast! Stay tuned for more coverage in the next few days!
