Rising bedroom-pop artist Loren Aronov shares introspective new single “mask On”

Growing up in a quaint suburb of Toronto, Loren Aronov always dreamed of becoming a pop star. Driven by external pressures and societal expectations, she would typically write and perform songs that portrayed an idealistic persona. However, living out her teenage years is teaching Loren to just appreciate the journey and stay true to her authentic self. She now strives to inspire others going through similar struggles with confidence.

Loren’s mission is no more apparent than in her newest release, “Mask On.” The song’s warm soundscape and lo-fi vocal production imbue the listener with a sense of intimacy as if Loren is speaking directly to them. This was done with firm intent as a way to elevate the artist-listener connection to even greater heights.

In her own words, Loren says,

The song is about trying to live up to other people’s expectations of you. Trying to be someone you’re not is the metaphor behind the title “mask on”, having to deal with the pressures that society sometimes puts on you to be perfect and succeed. I relate to that very much, which is why this song is very personal to me.”

“Mask On” is Loren’s fourth single release in 2023, a follow-up to her previous records “uncool,” “broken roads,” and “i’m okay,” which have already accumulated a combined 240k+ streams on Spotify alone.

Care to introduce yourself to our readers?

Hi, I’m Loren! I’m a 15-year-old bedroom pop artist from Toronto, Canada who loves to write and perform music. I want my message to be as relatable as possible in hopes of inspiring others, so a lot of my songs are about my own real-life events and experiences, including heartache, crushes, and ways to dig yourself out of dark places.

Tell us a bit about your most recent release.

My newest single is titled “Mask On.” It was written around a year ago when it felt like my whole world was crumbling, with nowhere to hide who I really was and my desire to be liked by my peers. I went through ups and downs pretending to be someone I wasn’t just for the sake of “fitting in”.

Where do you tend to pull inspiration when you’re writing?

Funnily enough, the best ideas I come up with are on the way to the studio/session when I think “what should I write about today?” then I reflect on my week and how it went. As soon as I get to the writing session, all my thoughts and feelings are coming out as if I’m in a therapy session.

Do you have any upcoming shows you’d like to tell us about?

Yes, I do have some shows coming up!

On June 1st, I will be performing at the El Mocambo and on June 3rd, I will be performing on the Toronto Night Market stage. I’m hoping to do some more shows in the summer!

What’s your goal for 2023?

My goal for 2023 is to write a lot more music, with at least one song release a month. There’s nothing I love more than to perform on stage, so my hope is to book more shows  – maybe even as the opening act for a successful tour!
