Kelowna, BC’s country-rock artist Hiedi Hyacinth recently unveiled her single, “I Don’t Need the Drama.”
Care to introduce yourself to our readers?
My Name is Hiedi Hyacinth. I’m a Country Artist from Kelowna, B.C, originally from Newfoundland. I started singing when I was a little girl to my parents and their friends—belting out Shania with a hairbrush in my hand as a microphone. I was very shy growing up, which is hard to believe, but my friends decided to bring me to karaoke for my 19th Birthday and I received a standing ovation. I was blown away by the response I received and thought, wow… I could get used to this.
Tell us a bit about your most recent release.
“I Don’t Need The Drama ” is my most recent release on the radio. The first time I heard this song, I was in love. The girl in this song really reminded me of the struggles I’ve gone through with men. I thought I could really put some sass into it and have a lot of fun with it. This song is about a strong woman who is downright sick of being the man in the relationship. She is just annoyed with wimpy boys that are wasting her time. Also, at this point, she just wants to relax, kick her feet up and have fun with the girls.
This sassy song is written by the talented Doug Folkins, Troy Castellano, a songwriter from Nashville, and Hailey Verhaalen, a Top 10 American Idol finalist.
Where do you tend to pull inspiration from when writing?
Where I pull my inspiration from writing is really all over the map. I’m constantly thinking of ideas and different concepts all day, writing them down in my notes. Sometimes, it’s how I’m feeling that day or how I see someone else’s feelings. I find hearing other people’s stories as well is super inspirational to me. Seeing things through others’ eyes is a beautiful thing.
Do you have any upcoming shows you’d like to tell us about?
I have quite a few shows so far this summer; hopefully, more to come. I have one in Vancouver at “The Bennet” on June 2nd and “Cook County” in Edmonton on July 14th a couple off the top of my head. My Team is also working on putting together a Winery and Brewery Tour across British Columbia.
What’s your goal for 2023?
My goal for 2023, Is to keep striving to be the best I can be and write as much as possible. I would love to get on a tour opening up for a big act, which would be my #1 goal for this year. I’d love to go on tour in Europe and Australia eventually.
