Last night, US hard rock band Clutch rocked a packed MTelus with their No Starts Above Tour!
The evening opened with Nate Bergman, who opened with a fantastic acoustic set and showed by his terrific voice that you don’t always need a full ensemble to be rock n’ roll!
Up next, Amigo the Devil, aka Danny Kiranos and band, brought the folk-rock vibes to the stage, starting with a banjo on the first song! The audience was clearly thrilled to see them there, and their performance didn’t go unnoticed, as fans in the front rows screamed along to the lyrics! And don’t let the cute backdrop with kittens fool you, these guys were here to seriously rock out!
Finally, shortly after 10pm, Maryland’s Clutch arrived on stage to a thunder of applause. This show was their highly-anticipated grand return to Montreal, since they hadn’t played in town since Heavy Montreal 4 years ago! While their 2019 set was great, we know that daytime, outdoor festival performances can differ greatly from the intimacy of a headline show at a club venue, and we were not disappointed! With a flashy stage setup that put all musicians under the spotlight, frontman Neil Fallon walked around the stage, commanding it with ease! The band has been around since the 90s, but you couldn’t tell that Neil has just entered his 50s, given the level of non-stop energy and showmanship he exudes on stage!
The setlist was solid, and has been changing most nights on the tour so far, keeping things exciting! The band kicked their set into high gear with Slaughter Beach, and gave a hard rock masterclass all the way to the encore with Earth Rocker, Electric Worry and of course X-Ray Visions. At this point, we’re just hoping it won’t be another 4 years before they come back to see us!
The No Stars Above Tour will be heading to Winnipeg, Saskatoon, Edmonton, Calgary and Vancouver later this month, and in Toronto at the end of July! For tickets and more info, visit the band’s website.
