Award-Winning Country Artist Meghan Patrick Flees Painful Memories On New Single “Ours”
Back-to-back CCMA Female Artist of the Year and 18x CMA Ontario award-winning country artist Meghan Patrick has unveiled her single, “Ours,” via Riser House Records.
“Ours” was written by Meghan alongside Joey Hyde (Jake Owen, The Band CAMINO), Matt McGinn (Tim McGraw, Blake Shelton), and Lydia Vaughn (Carrie Underwood, Jason Aldean). It laments the lingering memories of a love gone sour, watching a former lover with a new partner and experiencing a difficult deja vu in the process.
The new song comes on the heels of the announcement that Meghan will be making her Grand Ole Opry debut on April 11th and follows her last release, “She’s No Good For Me,” a song that was praised by Billboard, American Songwriter, E! News and more.
Watch the video for “Ours” below and learn more about Meghan Patrick via our mini-interview.
You have unveiled your single, “Ours,” which was written alongside Joey Hyde, Matt McGinn, and Lydia Vaughn. How was this experience?
Joey, Matt, and Lydia had started this song and brought it to me to see if it was something I’d want to write with them. I immediately loved the idea because it was something I’d definitely experienced, so it really resonated with me. They are all such great writers; it was really fun writing this song and bringing in my take/perspective on their idea.
Care to give us a brief backstory on the single?
This song was inspired by a situation where you go through a breakup, and your ex basically hits “copy and paste” from your relationship to the next one. They bring them to the same places and the same bar that used to be your spot and then even have the audacity to dance with them in front of you to a song y’all used to call “Ours.”
You have also unveiled a music video to accompany the release. What was the highlight of the video shoot?
It’s always a great day working with Ford Fairchild and his crew, and I also had my guitar player, Lenny starring in the video as my “ex,” which was super fun. However, the biggest highlight of that day, hands down, was when I got a facetime call from Terri Clark to tell me I would be making my Opry debut. We got it all on camera, a video I’ve watched and cried about several times. It was amazing to have my team there with me too, and my manager Randi had Mitchell on facetime, too, so he could see the whole thing.
It’s been announced that you will make your Grand Ole Opry debut on April 11. How does it feel to reach this milestone?
The feeling is still pretty surreal, to be honest. It’s something I’ve dreamed about for so long that I kinda felt like I needed someone to pinch me. It means so much to be recognized by the Opry as worthy of stepping into the circle to play songs I wrote on the most legendary stage in country music. It also feels like an acknowledgment that I belong here, that I’ve earned my spot here in Nashville and the world of country music, and that is such an honour. I can’t wait to step onto that stage and share this milestone with my friends, family, my team, and my fans… all the people who helped me get here, because, to me, this is kind of their moment too.
Aside from the new single and the amazing news of the Grand Ole Opry, what else does 2023 have in store for you?
Hopefully a lot of shows in new places I’ve never played, and definitely a ton of new music from me. I’ve been so focused on songwriting for the past couple of years, and I feel like I am ready to start putting these songs into the world. I do feel like I’m getting a bit of a clean slate or just a brand new chapter this year, and I’ve never felt more excited or ready for anything.
