Zach's Picks 4

Find out Zach’s last five recommendations for 2022

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to everyone out there in the internet world!! Oh!? Sorry, it’s actually Boxing Day, so I guess Happy Shopping, everyone! Welcome back for “Zach’s Picks Of The Week,” the show that always brings you some incredible new Canadian music. My top five recommendations are from our website, Canadian Beats Media, so be sure to explore the rest of our site for all the other goodies we have ready. So many incredible artists are featured, and concerts are covered. So explore what we offer this holiday season for yourself and find some new music to listen to today. But now we have my recommendations here for Zach’s Picks Of The Week to introduce you lovely music fans to.

Five

Kicking off this special list of new music, we’re introducing you to the dance music styles of Techno Westerns from Toronto, Ontario. His latest single to be released is called “Mystery Man,” which you can find out now on streaming platforms, and will be coming off of his upcoming EP, Midnight. Keep an eye out for that in the new year. The song stems from Techno Westerns’ experience, questioning what behaviour was a defense mechanism to keep others away and which behaviour was a genuine reflection of personality. Be sure to go and read more in the article here.

Four

Moving on in our list will take us to some photo coverage done by our very own Tara Thompson. She was able to catch the annual holiday show by Tim Baker in St. John’s. This tradition started when Baker was a part of the group Hey Rosetta! But since releasing solo music, Tim has kept it going, and this year was special. The opening act included the incredibly talented Newfoundland-based Kelly McMichael. She joined Baker on a few dates across the mainland, but the St. John’s crowd seemed to enjoy the entire show. Head over to the article here and see Tara’s coverage and review of the show here.

Three

Next, my top three will be Waterloo-based folk artist Carla Muller. Whose new single is a smooth hypnotic holiday track that everybody can enjoy called “Snow Came Falling.” It’s available now on all streaming platforms or to buy, and if you do support it, 50% of the sales will be donated to the local food bank in the Waterloo region. This beautiful song was inspired by the snowy night that Carla‘s daughter was born. This meditative song shows us to be grateful and count our blessings this holiday season. You can explore the rest of our article, where we highlight this amazing new single from Carla Muller here.

Two

Now we are moving into our top two spots of the week, with Montreal-based Afro-futuristic concept group Afrotronix. Their latest single to be released is called “Run Away Ta” and includes a new video with the release. This is the first track coming off of their two-volume album Future Tribe. Afrotronix had invited the renowned Senegalese group Daara J Family to feature on this new track. Like the rest of the album, this title is positioned to celebrate an Africanity that leads to a bright future. You can enjoy this new single and the video when you visit the article here.

One

Now we are here for my final recommendation of the week and year. Every generation has had to deal with its share of existential threats, and the members of the Toronto-based dark-folk group, Broken Wolves, are no different. They grapple with the looming threat of climate change and channel their anxieties onto their Medieval-inspired new single, “The Summons.” You can listen to it now on all streaming platforms, and “The Summons” is from their debut/self-titled album. It was recorded in 2019 at the Taurus Recording with the help of Jesse Turnbull. You can enjoy the track when you check out our article here.

Those will be my fabulous Picks Of The Week from our fantastic website, Canadian Beats. We will be back next year (or week) with a new list of amazing articles and posts that came out on this website. So I hope you all have a wonderful holiday season out there. Spend time with your family and loved ones, and spread some PEACE, LOVE, and GOOD MUSIC to all!
