Find out Zach’s Picks of the Week for December 19 – 24, 2022

Well, hello there, and welcome everybody back for another beautiful music Monday. This week we have plenty of excellent articles and new music getting dropped on our fantastic website, Canadian Beats. We are here today to talk about my top five favourites that I have hand-picked for you fans of the music. These will be Zach’s Picks of the Week, featured in this article and the video posted below. You’ll find a link to each of my recommended articles that are found here on our website so that you can take the short way or the long way. That’s entirely up to you, but I suggest you listen to each of the songs in the video, then will move on to the rest of our Music Monday post!

Five

Well, it’s difficult for anybody to make a cover song sound unique in their own production while also doing justice to the original version of the song. Well, the guys in Moore Ave have done just that with “Santeria,” Sublime’s 1997 hit. It’s a song that has transcended generations and continued as a valuable tune in the culture. But the Ontario-based band put their indie punk spin on the track, which will be a part of their upcoming debut album, Turn Around. However, their new rendition of the smash hit is now available on all your favourite streaming platforms, plus a video, which you can find in our article, where we have a quick interview with Moore Ave. You can read that interview and listen to the new cover single here.

Four

Moving onto our next featured song here for you to enjoy will have to do with braiding. The word, by definition, means weaving various materials together. But usually, this term is used in relation to someone’s hair. So that’s why the incredible Sam Casey’s newest single, “Good Fight,” expertly braids two separate yet overlapping themes. This powerhouse anthem tackles the idea of maintaining your mental health and navigating an, at times, brutal and demanding music industry. The music video released for “Good Fight” is a feminist manifesto toward self-acceptance and against harsh standards perpetuated by the male-dominated industry. If you want to check out the new video by Sam Casey, you can watch it in the article here.

Three

So now I’m taking you to our third top spot of the week, introduce you to Fredericton Ontario-base trio Keegan & The Vandalorians. They released their latest album, The Middle of the Day, on November 18th and feature songs like their single, “Trophy Wife.” The album is available to be heard on all of your favourite streaming platforms, plus the new single is highlighted in one of our Single Reviews. It’s anchored by tight rhythms and catchy melodies, but the album The Middle Of The Day brings together styles and sounds that showcase their clear appreciation for a variety of music. So be sure to go see what we had to say about their new single “Trophy Wife,” You can find links to all of their accounts in the article. So what are you waiting for, go and explore Keegan & The Vandalorians here.

Two

Next up, we have an incredible pop sensation from Toronto to share with you named Jaylen Bradley. For the past six years, Jaylen has been singing and making music through several outlets, most notably in K-Tel’s Mini Pop Kids, where she was a star soloist on the Mini Pop Kids 15 album. Since then, she has released her own music, including her latest single, “Games.” You can find that on all streaming platforms, plus her first single, “Last Summer.” When you’re listening to the new single, it’s about the one thing that could hurt your heart the most. When you share your past relationship pain with someone, that person ends up doing the same thing. In our article, you can explore this incredible song, where we also interview Jaylen Bradley. So go and listen to “Games” here.

One

Now we can introduce you to my final choice of the week from our fantastic website. Ottawa awards winner of Music Group of the Year, Evil Creek, has blasted their way onto your rock radar. The group’s new EP, Away from the Sun, is now available on all streaming platforms. It includes songs like the indignant single “Lovely,” which characterizes the wistful longing and tender reminiscence we all experienced during the pandemic. It starts with this twangy acoustic guitar and continues to build even with the drums. You can check out the new single and watch the accompanying video in our article. We highlighted the brand new single and tell you everything you need to know about the fantastic Evil Creek here.
