Keegan & The Vandalorians share “Trophy Wife” from their debut LP, The Middle Of The Day
Fredericton-based trio Keegan & The Vandalorians is made up of James Rooney (Drums), Keegan Dobbelsteyn (Guitar, Vocals), and Olivier LeBlanc (Bass, Vocals), met while playing with other acts and often perform together as a rhythm section backing up other artists.
The band has recently unveiled their single, “Trophy Wife.”
“‘Trophy Wife’ compares the idea of being a performer to being someone whose main source of value comes from their physical appearance,” said songwriter Keegan Dobbelsteyn. “The song depicts the darker side of that deal when the performer isn’t performing, and a sense of declining personal value settles in. This narrative is highlighted by a steady back beat and guitar and bass that push and pull their way rhythmically through the track.”

Review
From the beginning of “Trophy Wife,” the listener is welcomed with a fun beat, which is soon joined by mellow, somewhat drawn-out vocals.
“Beauty comes and goes but when it’s gone it’s gone, Even the one I love is telling me I don’t have long,” is the lyric that stood out to me. It saddens me to know that many people live in the thought that appearance is everything when really, we all know there are many more important factors.
The story told in this track sets a somewhat depressing tone, but with the lively beat, you almost don’t notice it.
Throughout the track, I found myself swaying and bopping with the addictive beat, and I look forward to hearing more from this east coast trio!
