Equator

Equator unveils their self-titled full-length album

Equator is a Toronto band fronted by Russ Fernandes (Shikasta, The Mercy Now) with Jeff MacNeil and members from Garbanzo. This new five-piece soul punk assault gives their newly released anthemic rock n rollers all the boogie, rage, forgiveness, and sweat you need to believe in, LIVE.

Their new self-titled full-length record, clocking in under 25 mins, was done live off the floor at Pro gold studios- loud, fast, bombastic, and lyrically drenched with how far we still are from equality and the work we need to put in as a village, not a house.

Listen to Equator below and learn more about the band via our Five Questions With segment.

Care to introduce yourself to our readers?

Equator is a five piece rock n roll outfit from Toronto. The band includes scene veterans Jeff MacNeil ( International Guitar Slinger), Russ Fernandes ( Shikasta, The Mercy Now) and the new young bloods from Garbanzo ( Sam, Elliot, Luke MacDonald and Luke Sutherland). We felt it necessary that we bring the soul punk attitude, all our experience and hunger to make up our own sound.

Tell us a bit about your most recent release.

No Surprises” starts with a chant from a Black Lives Protest I was at in 2020. Clocking in at under 2 min, its the perfect intro to us and the record. Fast, bombastic and uncompromising demanding change in ideas and intent and of course the need to boogie!

Where do you tend to pull inspiration from when writing?

Little Richard and anything STAX

Do you have any upcoming shows you’d like to tell us about?

We had shows in Toronto, Montreal & Ottawa last month in support of the album.

What’s your goal for the remainder of 2022 and into 2023?

After the tour, finish writing the new record ( almost done) and start recording live of the floor at the Bath House Studios in Kingston.
