Kay Howl unveils music video for “The Times”

Windsor, Ontario-based singer/songwriter Kay Howl has shared her single, “The Times,” along with a music video to accompany the release. The track is the lead single from Kay’s upcoming sophomore album.

Kay shares on the song,

“This song poured out of me. Have you ever known someone who didn’t even have to try to impress you? Whatever they did, you were captivated. Not on special occasions but throughout the mundane everyday. I was so captivated by her. She took my breath away, every single day.”

When it comes to the video, Kay says,

“As soon as the song was written, I knew there would be a video. It tells a vivid story and I was so excited to get to act out the various scenes. I was also so lucky to be able to surround myself with friends and fans for the shoot. It was a perfect day to shoot and the whole process was so much fun. I can’t wait to do it again.”

Care to introduce yourself to our readers?

My name’s Kay. I’ve played in many solo and group projects internationally as a vocalist, keyboardist, and, more recently, as a keytar player and dueling pianist. I’ve also released music as one half of the Oh Chays, along with 12-holiday albums with my charity band, the S’Aints. I’ve returned to my roots and my maiden name, “Kay Howl,” and have released a full-length album, Pink Trees, and most recently, a new single, “The Times.”

Tell us a bit about your most recent release.

My most recent release, “The Times,” is a lavishly-produced pop anthem delightfully depicting some of the many times love can leave you wonderfully breathless. I knew as I wrote it that the song would have a video to go with it. Some songs take months to chisel into the version you release. This one just poured out of me.

Where do you tend to pull inspiration from when writing?

My last album, Pink Trees, was written and mostly recorded in a few days. I was deeply in love with someone who abruptly ended things. I turned to music, and it didn’t let me down. I wrote the whole album as equal parts love songs and songs of heartache and confused pain. I disappeared inside myself and returned a few days later with a stripped-down album I’m really proud of. “The Times” and my upcoming album are the product of processing that doomed relationship after the fact. There are love songs, and there are angry tunes, but it all goes through a filter of my own therapy and growth and self-analysis first. So I guess I write from a place of….processing. Unless I’m writing for film or tv, which I do from time to time, in which case I’ll write about whatever is requested.

Do you have any upcoming shows you’d like to tell us about?

I’m currently doing an Ontario Christmas tour with Paquette Productions. I’m the “special guest,” and it’s a real treat to get to play with a 10-piece pro band with background singers. Info at Paquetteproductions.com. My charity band is playing our annual show at the Colosseum at Caesars Windsor on December 23. Tickets are available at Ticketmaster and Caesars.com. Then I’ll be performing in the Caribbean on cruise ships until spring.

What’s your goal for the remainder of 2022 and into 2023?

I’ve got big plans for 2023. In-between my cruise contracts, I’m hoping to do a small European tour at the end of April and potentially an Australian tour in the fall. I’ve also been added to some playlists on various music platforms and hope to gain fans and play more original shows while releasing my full-length album. 2023 is going to be a huge year for me.
