Brand new single, “Bright & Cold,” unveiled by Sophianne Girard
“Bright & Cold” is the lead single off of Montreal-based jazz vocalist and composer Sophianne Girard‘s fall album, For Some Reason. Though the track is a piece of contemporary/modern jazz with a bit of Latin flair, the single is a breezy listen for the uninitiated.
“I’m trying to rock people with my music,” Sophianne says. “To make them feel something and to make them say ‘Oh! Normally I don’t like jazz, but I like this.'”
Right from the beginning of “Bright & Cold,” under an alluring piano and upright bass, Sophianne’s warm and light lounge singer vocals are welcomed. She also switches from English to French, adding a bilingual layer of interest.
The saxophone solo is also a huge draw, giving the track a nice instrumental groove. But it doesn’t stop there, as a trumpet solo eventually makes itself known, ending in an almost big band crescendo.
“We don’t play for chops, we play for music, from the heart,” Sophianne says.
