Zach’s Picks of the Week is back with five new recommendations

Look’s like it that time of the week. Music Mondays are for the new music, after all. Especially here at Canadian Beats, home to the latest music from the best in Canada. You’ve tuned into our Zach’s Picks Of The Week segment, where you can enjoy my five recommended articles from the website this last week. But that doesn’t mean you can’t go and explore the rest of our website for more fun stuff. There are all sorts of exciting interviews, concert coverage, and even Inside The Industry, where you can learn tips and tricks. So explore, but please stick around for my weekly recommendations. They are coming out with the links below and in this week’s video.

Five

The Toronto-based band Ace of Wands starts us off with this week’s new music. They formed together in 2017 after singer Lee Rose reflected on a life-altering period when she struggled with mental illness—creating surreal, beautiful, and immersive soundscapes in their music, exploring the meaning of dream rock. They have released the first single off their upcoming album. The single is called “Desiring You” and showcases this band’s emotional ferocity and creative heart. The meaning behind the song was inspired by Lee’s toxic relationship and the addictive and destructive nature of desiring what may not be good for you. We explore attention, anger, and her ultimate refusal to be strung along. Check out our Five Questions With segment and the new single here.

Four

Staying in the Toronto area, Zach’s Picks of the Week presents a retro-soul artist, Claire Davis. Claire has unveiled her latest single, “Times Have Changed,” to the world via LRK Records. This personal new single came together collaboratively with the help of some of Canada’s best in the Soul and R&B game. The Toronto production house, Safe Spaceship, composed the music. In the lyrics, she talks about personal accounts she had when choosing what we all think could be the right path in our lives—just trying to change how those who came before us shaped the world and how you can change it for future generations. So enjoy this amazing song in the article here.

Three

Not only are they taking a spot in the top three on our show, but Country duo, The Reklaws, have released their third album. It’s called Good Ol’ Days and features three unreleased tracks they have been waiting to share with the world. You can find it on your favourite streaming service or head over to our article. One of their latest singles from the album is an anthem for the girls and a solo track for singer Jenna Walker. She takes the lead on “Middle Fingers,” a song that Jenna has wanted to share with fans and was written with her friend Emily Reid. Between writing during a pandemic, coast-to-coast summer shows, and multiple awards, the past two years have been memorable for The Reklaws. Go to yourself a favour and explore their brand new album in our article here.

Two

Moving on, we’ve got the latest EP released from Canadian breakout country rock artist Cory Marks. On November 11, he released a new EP titled I Rise via Better Noise Music. The record was inspired by Cory’s time training to complete his pilot license. His determination, patience, and drive to achieve his goal brought together many songs, including “Burn It Up” on this record. But there is something for everybody on this record, songs like “Hold On” have a more positive feel. His music brings a satisfying dose of rock and country and a unique blend of his own. Please do yourself a favour and visit the article we have for the release of this brand new EP, I Rise, here.

One

This week’s final choice and recommendation will be with a band from Saskatoon, which we’ve featured in the past. The three-piece heavy indie rock group, GreenWing has released a live-off-the-floor performance video for the title track of their debut album. The live tracking of the song “Late Bloomer” was recorded on July 19th this year and was filmed by Saul Chabot at Millimedia. The session was also recorded/mixed by their singer/guitarist Matt Stinn at his studio, Rainy Day Recording Co. Since the band’s formation in 2021, they have quickly gained traction and a name for themselves. Check out our article, where you can watch the live video performance of the title track from GreenWing’s debut album here.

So those will be all five of my favorite articles of the week, but you should still explore the rest of the excellent content posted on our website. Just head over to the homepage and go nuts! You should be adding these recommendations that I just told you about to your favourite playlist. I’m sure they appreciate it as much as I enjoy you following instructions; I’m kidding, you have free will, but you’ll be happy if you do. Here’s another command: please tune in next Monday for more music, and bring a friend. I’ll see you all next time here on Zach’s Picks Of The Week, so until next time, as always, PEACE, LOVE, AND GOOD MUSIC TO EVERYONE!!
