MDL CHLD shares new single, “Numb,” + accompanying video

Toronto hip hop artist and ASL advocate MDL CHLD (aka Chris Corsini) recently returned with “Numb,” a powerful new song and video.

“Numb” follows the release of “All The Sudden,” which came out earlier this year and is the 2nd single from MDL CHLD’s upcoming EP, out in 2023. Pop-driven with laid-back dreamy beats, “Numb” is a personal song about addiction and mental health.

“I wrote this song when I truly hit rock bottom,” says MDL CHLD. “This was the experience that cracked me open, shifted my life, and led me back to myself. I hope this song inspires anybody who is going through their own dark night of the soul to keep going; it really does get better.”

Watch the video for “Numb” below and learn more about MDL CHLD via our Five Questions With segment.

First off, care to introduce yourself to our readers?

My name is Chris Corsini, I’m a Canadian recording artist, I’m a practicing psychic & astrologer, and I worked as an American Sign Language English interpreter for over a decade in Toronto, Canada. I strive to make accessible content by using ASL, captions, and working with Deaf talent both in front and behind the camera. I’m also a middle child, hence my artist name: MDL CHLD.

Tell us a bit about your most recent release.

My most recent release, “Numb,” really focuses on the struggles of the world. We live in right now and all of the ways that we know more self out from feeling whatever unprocessed emotions were dealing with. The song was written through a really dark time in my life, when I was escaping my reality through the use of drugs, drinking, and a party boy lifestyle, and eventually, I got to the point where I just couldn’t do it any longer. I was really struggling with my mental health at that time, and I wrote this song to help shift that energy – I realized my story could inspire people to pull themselves out of these similar situations if they find themselves there.

When it comes to the global pandemic, how are you keeping yourself out in the public eye while not being able to perform as much?

I think social media played the largest role for everyone during the pandemic; this was certainly what elevated my monthly Tarot and Astrology workshops & readings, and this inspired me to continue creating. Through building that presence I got to introduce more people to my music as well which was amazing and now we have steady growth on both sides of what I love doing.

Canadian Beats is all about Canadian music, so if you were able to work with ONE fellow Canadian artist, alive or dead, who would you choose?

I would love to work with Jessie Reyez – she’s got such a great vibe and her voice is unique & amazing.

What’s your goal for the remainder of 2022?

We’re continuing to work on an upcoming album that will be released in the summer of 2023. Until then, we’re just continuing to create more music videos for all the singles. It will be releasing until then; there’s lots coming down the pipeline!
