Zach's Picks 56

It’s that time again! Find out Zach’s Picks of the Week now!

Well, hello there, music fans. I hope you’re doing well this week, and we are back for another beautiful Music Monday. At Canadian Beats Media, we bring you the best articles about all sorts of new Canadian music. This segment features songs hand chosen by me, and that’s why the show is called “Zach’s Picks Of The Week.” You’ll be able to find each of these articles when you read the rest of this post. They will be linked below. However, you will also get to listen to these incredible artists and their featured songs when you watch the video below. Do yourself a favour and explore not just my recommendations but the rest of our website as well. But first, let’s check out these Picks Of The Week coming up for you this week.

Five

Let’s begin this week’s new list of recommendations with the modern pop songstress from Toronto, NIIVA. In October, she returned with the latest single, “Friends,” via RÊVE MUSIC and The Orchard. The new single is produced by Toronto’s Emery Taylor and described as a taste of forbidden fruit. With smooth, intimate vocals overtop an infectious beat, the fresh new single bursts with the sweet, familiar anticipation of the classic “friends to lovers” narrative that we all know and love. Now you can head over and listen to the new single, “Friends,” and check out our mini interview with NIIVA. Check it out here.

Four

Heading into our next choice for this week will take us back to Vancouver-based artist Victoria Anthony. Victoria released her fourth single this year called “Should’ve Known.” The track is a high-energy, angst-infused Alt/Pop single about a crash-and-burn relationship where she felt she should have known better for trusting that former special someone. The single is from her sophomore album, set for release in the spring of 2023. She is taking her music across the sea for the first time while she tours with American pop singer Leah Kate in the UK and Europe. Head over to our article for the release of the new single and to find upcoming tour dates. Check out the new single, “Should’ve Known,” and an interview with Victoria Anthony here.

Three

A highlight on our website this week has to be with Oshawa-based post-hardcore band Judgement. Their latest single, “Crashing Down,” was produced by 2X Juno award winner Julia Butty and Wade McNeil of Alexisonfire. It’s available on all streaming platforms, and the band had this to share about their new single. “‘Crashing Down’ is a crossroad between navigating the emotions of losing a loved one and coping with the questions that will forever remain unanswered. It is a song about loss and rebirth.” Head over to the single review conducted on our website for the brand-new track “Crashing Down.” You can also check out the brand-new music video in this same article for Judgement here.

Two

This week in our top two will bring us to Montreal-based duo ORCHAD, who’s unveiled their brand-new single “SKIN.” The song’s core is about hook-up culture, speaking about the band’s experience with casual relationships. You see, there’s a specific period in time where both parties know the sex-only aspect isn’t healthy. However, they continue to see each other even after resentment settles in. That new single is available on all streaming sites and is accompanied by a brand-new video. It shows a woman in a relationship with each band member and captures the tensions between the parties involved. Head to the website to check out our single review for the latest track from ORCHAD, called “SKIN,” here.

One

Now time for our final choice here on Zach’s Picks Of The Week. I am pleased to introduce you to the incredible Toronto-based group UWUW (pronounced you-you). Composed of some of Toronto‘s most experienced and revered musicians making this project possible, it’s no wonder their sound demands your attention and isn’t going to let go. They have just released their debut, self-titled LP through We Are Busy Body Records. This album has a lot to unpack: old-school soul grooves, slow-burning instrumentation, and thoughtful lyrics that bring energy and life to their songs. You can listen to their debut album from UWUW in our article here.

Now those will be it for Zach’s Picks Of The Week. These recommendations and many more can be found at Canadian Beats.
