Barenaked for the Holidays (Deluxe Edition) coming November 11, 2022
Barenaked Ladies announce their latest Barenaked for the Holidays (Deluxe Edition), set to be released digitally on November 11, 2022. This release features nine bonus holiday tracks that were recorded live. In addition to this release, Barenaked for the Holidays will also be released on vinyl for the first time on November 18th. Pre-save/ Pre-order here.
First released in 2004, the popular holiday-themed collection achieved GOLD certification in Canada and hit the Top 100 U.S. Billboard album chart. This album “includes seven original songs, alongside faithful and modern interpretations of traditional Christmas and Hanukkah songs, steeped with the musicianship and sense of humour the band is known for.” Included on the album are songs such as ‘Green Christmas,’ which was notably written for the blockbuster Ron Howard film Dr. Seuss’ How The Grinch Stole Christmas (2000), as well as “Jim Creeggan’s jazzy ‘Christmas Pics’ and Kevin Hearn’s nostalgic ‘Christmastime (Oh Yeah).’” Topping off the album are originals such as ‘Snowman,’ which Rolling Stone calls “a tender original,” and ‘Elf’s Lament,’ featuring Michael Buble.
The nine additional tracks were “recorded live off the floor at Toronto’s Noble Street studios during BNL’s December 2020 Holiday special, A Very Virtual Christmas. Seven of the bonus tracks are live versions of Barenaked for the Holidays songs, including special guest Sarah McLachlan, who reprises her creature on traditional holiday songs. Also included are new tracks ‘Feliz Navidad’ a send-up of the Jose Feliciano classic, and ‘Santa Sabbath (Xmas Metal-y),’ a medley of three traditional Christmas songs sung to the tune of ‘War Pigs’ by Black Sabbath – which features Ed Robertson on drums and drummer Tyler Stewart on lead vocals.”
Accompanying this release, BNL recently announced a 14-date tour titled Hometown Holidays with Barenaked Ladies. BNL will perform holiday favorites from the Barenaked for the Holidays album and a few other chestnuts and surprises. This will be a must-see for BNL fans to put the cherry on top of the holiday season.
BNL’s Ed Robertson describes it best:
“We’re bringing Barenaked Cheer to YOUR hometown. It’s been a couple of long, cold, lonely winters, so let’s have some fun!”
