Nolan Compton – Five Questions With

Nolan Compton

Nolan Compton’s EP Born and Raised is the new soundtrack to rural country life

Originally from PEI, now based in Calgary, AB, country singer-songwriter Nolan Compton released his EP, Born and Raised, in June.

Born and Raised features six tracks, including his single “Unbelievable,” which received radio play across Canada and was the fifth most-downloaded country single during that release period.

Born and Raised will be the new soundtrack to rural country life, with his modern country sounds mixed with his early country influences.

“Ever since I got into songwriting, I always envisioned the moment of releasing my songs to the world. The production process of Born and Raised was an amazing experience. For years, I would play these songs with just my guitar so hearing the songs with all the instruments for the first time made for a very special moment in the studio. It’s been a pleasure to have worked with so many amazing people along the way, and I can’t wait to expand my relationships within the music industry in the years to come.”

Care to introduce yourself to our readers?

My name is Nolan Compton. I’m a country singer/ songwriter from Morell, PE, based in Calgary, AB. I began singing and playing guitar at 17, and writing came shortly after. I spent the next five years playing in different pubs and venues across PEI. Once I developed a solid fanbase, I started to sell out ticketed events with a full band. In 2019 we began the production of the Born and Raised EP, and on June 3rd, 2022, the Born and Raised EP was released for the world to hear.

I recently moved to Calgary with the hopes of working with new artists, expanding my markets, and making a name for myself in the big city.

Tell us a bit about your music and writing style.

I create music that reflects the authentic country lifestyle in which I live. I grew up on the family potato farm with the sounds of Keith Whitley and Trace Adkins on the radio, My music nods to the early influences, but I also pair it with a modern country style reminiscent of Chris Young and Luke Combs.

How have you been keeping creative during the Pandemic?

With shows being canceled and everything closed, it left me with a lot of time to write and be creative. I could work with artists that I normally didn’t get to work with because everything was closed. I would consider my pandemic experience a bitter-sweet ordeal.

If you were asked to suggest only one of your songs for someone to hear, which would it be?

Out of my six songs, I feel they all have their way of connecting with the listener. However, if you are looking for a feel-good, upbeat track, I would direct the listener to “Unbelievable.”
