Dragonette shares video for “Twennies” from the album of the same name

JUNO and SOCAN Award winner Dragonette (the professional moniker for highly sought-after songwriter Martina Sorbara) delivers a tinge of nostalgia with the new video for “Twennies,” the title-track dancefloor single from the electro-pop powerhouse’s forthcoming album Twennies, out now via BMG.

Shares Sorbara,

“For the ‘Twennies’ video I asked my best friend Wendy Morgan to help me brainstorm a concept to serve as a celebration of our long and illustrious creative and personal relationship. I was first introduced to Wendy when I was a solo artist releasing my debut label single and she made my first video, and we fast became friends. Then, with Dragonette, Wendy made the video for our debut single ‘I Get Around’, as well as ‘Fixin’ To Thrill’ and ‘Live In This City’. We have always been fluent in each other’s creative language, and are able to understand each other’s visions so clearly, so when Wendy agreed to direct this video it reignited an engine that had be ready and waiting.”

She continues,

“We decided to do a video that harkened back to the early days of our friendship when we biked everywhere together; calling ourselves a “bike gang”, having no hands competitions, perpetually on an adventure. For me, the ultimate feeling of freedom is flying down the street on a bicycle with warm wind in my face, singing and moving how I want because I’ll just be a blur to the people I’m passing by. No holds barred, and no bars held. Breaking free of what ties us down and finding the thing that makes us feel alive. That was the feeling we wanted to capture in this video.”

Fans have already had a taste of the new collection with the release of the infectious power-pop anthem “New Suit,” described as a “mash-up of retro and contemporary sounds and imagery,” and the dynamic track “Seasick,” of which Dragonette shares, “‘Seasick’ is important for me because I know it’s about some pretty dark traumatic heartbreak, which I’ve written about A LOT. But in this song I can hear things healing. There’s a light heartedness that took time (and therapy) to achieve.”

With Twennies Dragonette moves into the newest chapter of her illustrious career, looking forward with more wisdom, experience and confidence than ever before, and creating her best work to date.
