Teigen Gayse returns with her new single “I Don’t Need A Boy.”
Describing her new single as “a fun song about feeling strong, fierce and being perfectly and incandescently happy on your own,” Teigen Gayse has been making a name for herself through anthems that uplift and inspire confidence.
After stunning the industry with showcases throughout Country Music Week earlier this fall, Teigen will soon be bringing her music to a wider audience, recently signing with Paquin Artist Agency. “We couldn’t be more excited to begin this journey with Teigen,” says Vice President Jason Furman. “She’s special, and someone that you will all know soon enough!” Managed under Tracey Singer of K Music Management, Teigen is continuing to expand her team by working with Steer, a division of RGK Entertainment Group.

First off, care to introduce yourself to our readers?
Hi! My name is Teigen Gayse. I’m a country singer/songwriter born and raised in a small town located in northern BC called Chetwynd. I currently live in Kelowna, BC. I’m Métis, love my country, my dog Billie Jean and performing for you all!
You have unveiled your new single, “I Don’t Need A Boy.” What can you tell us about the writing process behind the track?
I wrote this song with Patricia Conroy, Dave Thompson, and Jeff Johnson. It was my first time writing and meeting Patricia and Dave, and remember being a little bit nervous. We all started talking about different topics to write about, and it really felt so natural. Suddenly, Patricia started humming the lyrics “I don’t need a boy,” and I said, “LET’S WRITE THAT!” We all dug in on that, and the rest is history!
“I Don’t Need A Boy” follows your previous single, “Messed Up,” which garnered over 700K streams. With a hit of that magnitude, do you have a goal set for the number of streams you want to reach this time around?
I still can’t believe it! The support my fans and music family have given me fills my heart. With the new single, I think it would be pretty cool to get over 1 million streams J. This would be a huge milestone for me.
You have signed with both Paquin Artist Agency and Steer, a division of RGK. Tell us about how these accomplishments came to be and how does it feel to be part of these awesome teams?
Where to start lol. My manager Tracey has been talking to Ron (RGK/Steer) for a while now. He came to see me perform live and has been so encouraging, watching my growth as a writer and artist. We had the opportunity to spend some quality time with Ron and the team during CCMA. Honestly, I love this team! They are so welcoming and genuinely supportive, and am excited to be working with all of them!
Paquin is very similar. Tracey and Jason Furman go way. During CCMA, we spent time together, and after that, we did a zoom with the team. They are hilarious! I am very excited to be working with both Jason and Todd! They get me.
My music family is complete.
You have built a great career for yourself, with millions of streams and over 11 million TikTok views, so it seems only right to ask, what advice would you give to someone starting out?
TikTok is something that takes a lot of time but is well worth it. You have to be constantly creating new, fun content. It can be funny skits or you and your guitar. There is no rhyme or reason as to why something goes viral. Just have fun; the more you post, the more the algorithms increase. Be yourself, don’t worry about being perfect, be real and authentic, and DON’T QUIT!!!
During the pandemic, how did you stay up to date with your fans and creative on your social media?
I enjoy social media, so when the pandemic hit, I honed into each platform as much as possible. It’s all anyone really had at that time – creating fun TikToksand reels for Instagram. I love communicating with my fans, so any chance I got, I was writing back and checking in with everyone. It means the world when I hear from people who follow me and my music. I love to share this journey with them.
You’ve described “I Don’t Need A Boy” as “a fun song about feeling strong, fierce and being perfectly and incandescently happy on your own.” Thinking back is there a song that made you feel that way in your past?
OMG YES – LIZZO – GOOD AS HELL
That song pumps me up every time!!! She is such a creative writer and artist.
You’ve been playing guitar since the age of 13. What was the first song you ever played on guitar?
“Tim McGraw” By Taylor Swift. I remember practicing it in woodworking class over and over again. My teacher was also a musician, so he was kind enough to let me go practice (I think he knew I wasn’t born to build things, lol).
What’s your favourite part about the music industry in British Columbia?
I would have to say, the people. They have been so supportive and welcoming to me. I was nominated for the first time this year for a BCCMA. I met so many fun, incredibly talented artists that night. It’s a community that uplifts everyone and makes them welcome. I feel blessed to know each of them and treasure the new friendships!
What can we expect from you for the remainder of 2022 and into 2023?
I will be working on the rest of my record. I just finished writing my next single with Chad Kroeger. That was an experience of a lifetime! He is extremely talented, and I feel blessed that he took the time to work with me. He is producing the song with Chris Baseford and I can’t wait to share it! I will be heading down to Nashville at the end of October for a month and a half. I’ll be writing with a bunch of my favourite people, like Patricia Conroy, Jeff Trott, Phil Barton, and David Thompson. Excited to see what the year brings.
