ORCHAD shares their single, “SKIN,” with an accompanying music video

Montreal, QC-based duo ORCHAD has unveiled their latest single, “SKIN.”

The song’s core is about hook-up culture and speaks about the band’s experience with casual relationships, specifically the period where both parties know the sex-only aspect isn’t healthy but continue to see each other even after resentment settles in.

The accompanying video features Sonia von Sacher and Maeve Rose as the women in the relationship with each band member, and it captures the tension between the parties involved.

The band will also have their first “official” live show at Piranha Bar on November 12th as direct support for Living Dead Girl. Get more information here.

Review

Beginning with an unearthly industrial-heavy intro, “SKIN” blends various genres, such as alternative, rock,  and pop, to develop their own unique sound.

The vocals join in at 35 seconds into the track, giving a stronger alternative vibe and showcasing various vocal stylings, creating a distinctive blend set to appeal to listeners as a whole and not confined to one specific genre.

The lyrics, “I feel your skin on my skin, Just where you won’t let me in, There’s no use holding us back, You’ve painted my heart black, It’s back and forth, You promised not to call again, But we both know, it’s a matter of the question when,  And this all just repeats will this ever end,” are completely relatable, leaving the listener feeling as they are not alone in the situation.

Throughout the track, the mix of styles and influences gives off a feeling of unorganized chaos, which some may not understand, but I personally enjoyed it. As their bio says, “they manage to deliver a sound that “shouldn’t work” by any account, but it sucks you in,” and that’s exactly how I feel.

Toward the end of the track, there’s a chilling solo that I couldn’t get enough of, so what are you waiting for? Add “SKIN” to your playlists now!

First off, care to introduce yourself to our readers?

We’re ORCHAD spelled with an “A” instead of an “i” because we’re illiterate. We’re an Alt-Rock/Pop duo from Montreal, Quebec, with a vocalist and a lead guitarist. We make you dance, and your head bang.

You have unveiled your new single, “SKIN.” What can you tell us about the creative process behind the track?

This was an interesting one for us. Usually, we’re on the same page when we show each other new music, but when Julian presented SKIN to Justyn, he hated it. He thought it was derivative. Julian insisted in a very positive manner to work on the track, which is out of character because if one of us doesn’t feel the track, we don’t work on it, and it stays that way. Julian was adamant that Justyn’s guitar work would make the track stand out. Justyn gave it a shot, wrote every guitar part in the length of the track, and immediately changed his damn mind on the song, loving it.

Lyrically, the song was inspired by lust. Julian entered into waters he didn’t want to be in, and a sexual relationship developed into feelings both Julian and the lady in question didn’t want. So, they resented each other, and it turned toxic. That’s what SKIN is about. In the hook-up culture we live in, this ends up being the case more times than we’d like to admit, and to the point where it ends up becoming what we want in the end. For those who care to know, Julian didn’t learn his lesson!

You have also shared a video for the release, starring Sonia von Sacher and Maeve Rose. What was the highlight of the video shoot?

The highlight of the shoot was absolutely the second half of it at the AirBnB we were filming at. We’d spent the first half of the day at the studio, where we’d all met each other before but weren’t all the way comfortable with each other off camera, but at the Airbnb, everyone was vibing. We had some drinks, we ordered some sushi, the conversations were awesome, and everyone was having fun, and you’ll see that in the final edit. Plus, Sonia and Maeve were amazing to work with, super professional, fun people, and as soon as the cameras were on, they just fell into character,

You will be playing your first “official” live show on November 12 at Piranha Bar. If you had to describe your live performance in ten words or less, what would they be?

Energetic, Fun, Witty, Unexpected, an invite to a memorable event.

What are your goals for the rest of 2022 and going into 2023?

We have another single we’re releasing in December called “Good Enough.” A very dark, sombre yet easy to listen to track. That will have a video of its own before preparing to release our debut album in the summer of 2023. We have so many great songs on this release, and we really can’t wait to get them out there.

Also, we’ll be playing live everywhere and often to promote not only these singles but the album as well.
