On October 6, 2022, guitar-driven Heavy Metal band Trivium brought their Deadmen and Dragons tour to Calgary, Alberta, with support from the progressive Metal legends, Between The Buried And Me; Deathcore band Whitechapel; as well as Metal band Khemmis.

Khemmis started the evening off with a short but powerful set consisting of singles spanning the past ten years since their inception.

Whitechapel proved why they were selected to open for two of the most successful and influential metal bands ever. Whitechapel has been shredding around for 16 years, and their setlist consisted of a couple of fan favourites and hits while throwing in a couple of new songs off their latest release, Kin.

If you are a fan of metal ranging from Deathcore to Black to Progressive, then you are already a fan of Between The Buried And Me (BTBAM). BTBAM has had a successful career spanning 20 years, opening up for some of the biggest names in metal since their earlier years and then sharing co-headling slots with their idols. Calgary was treated to their hits “Sun Of Nothing,” “Extremophile Elite,” as well as the new singles “Revolution In Limbo” and “The Future Is Behind Us” off of their new album, Colors II.

With the crowd already warmed up from the onslaught of face-melting metal coming off the stage, Grammy-nominated Trivium made their presence, starting the night off with “IX,” “What The Dead Men Say,” and “Into The Mouth of Hell We March.” By the time “Amongst The Shadows & Stones” was started, vocalist Matt Heafy stopped the performance due to an injured concertgoer in the pit (we were later given an update from the stage that the patron suffered a knee injury and she was going to be alright). This led to the band picking up where they left off after a 5-minute break to ensure security and EMS were able to help the patron to the back.

The night was filled with hits off of Trivium’s back catalogue while adding in many songs off their two releases since the beginning of the pandemic, which was received by praise from the audience who couldn’t stop the mosh pit from jumping around. Overall it was a night of face-melting shredding from the guitars and growls from the vocalists. If there is one tour you need to see before the end of 2022, Deadmen and Dragons is an experience to have and a night to never forget.
