Zach’s Picks of the Week – October 10, 2022 to October 15, 2022

Zach's

Good Music Monday, everyone out there! I’m your host, Zach Coopz, here to welcome you back or to your first “Zach’s Picks Of The Week.” It’s our weekly segment on our website, where I showcase five articles and the artists that are promoted in these posts. In this week’s video, you will find the links to each of my recommendations in this article and a teaser of each song. So let’s get into this week’s exciting list of new music, these are Zach’s Picks Of The Week, and I hope you enjoy them.

Five

Let’s begin this week’s list with a Toronto-based singer/songwriter, Lily Frost. She’s released her 10th full-length album, Decompression, to all streaming platforms. One of the latest singles released from the album was “Drive All Night.” It’s joined by a brand new video as well. However, the new album was produced by the incredible Aaron Goldstein, who brought Lily fully into the Americana realm for the first time. They infuse her songs with folk, soul, blues, and country touches. Enjoy her album, Decompression, in the article where we interviewed Lily Frost here.

Four

Moving on in this week’s list takes us to Nova Scotia-based singer-songwriter Kristen Martell. She’s back with her new album, Every Season, produced by award-winning songwriter Gabrielle Papillon and also features her backing vocals in the album. But this 8-track record features many songs, including “Should I Run,” which was released as a single back in June. However, it speaks levels to all who listen to it, Kristen shares in the article. “‘Should I Run’ explores themes of disassociation in times of turmoil.” You can check out our full review, where we go song by song, here.

Three

Next will be a group of talented ladies from Toronto, The Beaches. They’re returning with their latest single, “My People,” to all streaming platforms. This track, with a kind of quirky, new-wave rock sound, reveals the not-so-glamorous side of life in the city. The pricey living expenses, especially in their home base of Toronto, can be tough. You sometimes have to get creative when you’re scraping by, but guitarist Kylie Miller has a friend that makes the most of it – resorting to selling her feet pictures online to a man in Japan. However, her sister, lead vocalist/bassist Jordan, disguised it in a line from the new single. “Sold my panties to some guy in Austin.” Check out their brand-new single, plus a mini interview with The Beaches here.

Two

So making our way into this week’s top two will be the heavy indie rock band, GreenWing from Saskatoon. They recently unveiled their new album, Late Bloomer, to all streaming platforms. Features eight amazing songs, including the title track and their latest single, “Social Cues.” The whole album does a great job of introducing and showcasing GreenWing to new listeners. One of the tracks off the album, “Ten Thousand Reasons,” opens with a heavy, punchy beat that you can’t resist. The lyrics centered around debt explain situations familiar to many of us these days. It’s one of those more challenging learning experiences, but now we all have some fun lyrics to belt out as we learn. But please do yourself a favour and listen to the new album Late Bloomer here.

One

Now, our number one choice for this week’s list takes us to meet ALIAS, a multi-instrumentalist, composer, and polymath from Montreal. He’s unveiled his newest album, Jozef, to all streaming platforms, via Simone Records. His debut record features entrancing sounds and visuals, showcased in his previous singles, “Together,” “Fantasy,” and “Shine.” ALIAS continues to shape and showcase his ability to binge genres while exploring this new record’s new complex and ominous themes. If you would like to learn more about this exceptionally talented Quebec artist, you should visit our Five Question With segment conducted with ALIAS here.
